Style Trend : 90's Grunge
WE'RE THROWING IT BACK WITH A NEW SERIES OF BLOG POSTS
The kids of the Grunge era cared a lot about their clothes they wore and the music they listened to - they didn't just want to look like they cared. They had a definite rebellious streak, and chose to be individual and expressive rather than follow trends. The fashion rebellion of the '90s was surprisingly laid-back. Grunge ran again the fluorescent, hair-sprayed craze of the '80s. They proved that a little messy and totally originality is eternally cool.
Grunge Icons: Google Winona Ryder and Drew Berrymore. You'll be overwhelmed with floral dresses, oversized blazers and a LOT of black and a LOT of leather during their '90s heyday. They seemed to make everything look a little tougher as an expert grunge move. Pair a floral dress with lots of black and you'll be half-way there. For a modern icon, look to Kristen Stewart. You'll often see her sporting black vans and a leather jacket, with her 'don't give one' attitude and a wardrobe of boxy silhouettes. Stewart looks incredible with flannel, shredded t-shirts and denim. She is ultimately the master of modern grunge.
The Essentials: Let's be honest - Doc Martens never went out of style. Pick a pair with extra-high platform soles for a tough, stylish look. Layer a velvet chocker with a longer pendant necklace for a 1997-meets-2017 look. And last but not least - an oversized flannel shirt. Your 90's grunge look is not complete with one ted around your waist.
Inspiration: Take a look at some of the most iconic Grunge looks from the '90s and beyond:
