How to Take a Sexy Boudoir Selfie – Styling Edition

Hey friends! My name is Shana Dahan and I am the Spokesmodel for Haute Shots boudoir photography. I am also an avid thrifter, lifestyle & fashion blogger here in Las Vegas, Nevada! I am definitely not an expert when it comes to Selfies…as a matter of fact with all the pictures I do take, selfies are not always one of them. I mean, I will often take pics of my shoes, or my food, but my FACE that is a whole other story. This series actually had me experimenting with light, make up, hair, and even clothing pieces I would have never worn for a boudoir session. I realized quickly that I wasn’t super comfortable with snapping pictures of my body…partly due to the fact that I was afraid the neighbors would see me (haha!) and well, as comfortable as I am with Stacie taking pics - I know she will always portray me in the best light, but HOW was I supposed to do that??? Here is where some of the styling choices come in.

Bracelets

I have soooo many accessories and often forget to use them. But when it comes to selfies..since most of the shots are really focused Accessories become the star! And let’s face it I was trying to take away from the bags under my eyes haha Luckily Stacies tip of standing in front of a window nearly made my face look like a 12 year old! Wootwoot I was 21 all over again! I opted for some gold bangles I got as a gift from World Market. Add some interest the photo and allows for framing of the photo. Using my hands to frame my face, thanks Stacie, I was able to hold my phone so that I could capture the shot. A little exhale and arch and voila! FYI, it took me 9 times to get two shots I liked..don’t let the one shot fool you!

Stockings

I have a huge inventory of stockings haha I know…and some of my all time favorites are from American Apparel. I love the sporty vibe and casual feel yet I feel super sexy. If you are one that doesn’t want to show your face, then focus on fun stockings that you can snap a shot of. I just layed down on my bed and angled my body away from the camera holding my phone close to my head. This shot took over 10 times to get but it was interesting playing around to see what best flatters your body. These red stockings are fun since they are footless and can be worn over your favorite heels. There are so many colors and you can show of your heels or wear a peep toe to show of your pedicure. Accented with sexy lingerie, again detail shots can be super sexy and you don’t even have to see your face!

High Heels

Heels are my downfall, I love me some heels. These ones in particular are by Steve Madden and I got them at Marshalls. You can find some incredible designers there for more than half the price. I opted for black, with a small detail since I was choosing more colorful wardrobe pieces. But you could always choose a red heel or an embellished heel to really capture a fun shot!

Bodysuit

I have quite a few body suits and this one designed by Liya Amar is one of my favorites. Her collection La Lilouche has to be one of the most innocent yet racy collections I have ever seen. The nice thing about a body suit is that it will make you feel confident by keeping you all sucked in and flatter almost any body type. You don’t have to show your tummy to get a sexy shot, and more importantly it allows you to feel comfortable so that you can really have fun.

Kimono

Well, if you don’t own a Kimono by now you are seriously missing out. I have several from all over, but my recent find at Marshalls has to be my favorite. The colors are a little muted but I loved the vintage feel and the fringe added a great texture to my photos that I didn’t even know would happen. A robe, kimono or even a sheet is a great way to hide any areas you are not so excited about and give you that sexy vibe.

Bra with detail

I always seem to be drawn to any bra that has some sort of straps, or lace, or detail that looks out of the ordinary. When playing around with selfies those details really add to the photo and even change your mood or attitude! I definitely felt a little racy in this H&M piece, and I loved how the straps looked in the photo. I am an all-natural girl, and I often get insecure about it…I noticed that lace or straps help me to take away from the fact that I may not be Dolly Parton but I can still be sexy!

Be Creative and Have Fun!

The most important aspect for styling for selfies is being creative with your choices and having fun! Selfies are the perfect outlet for trying getting a little crazy with your wardrobe choices. You are free to experiment with new things...to see how they make you feel and to push your creativity out of your comfort zone. So, focus on the fun and let your personality shine through, because the expression you wear on your face and the body language you portray are sometimes the biggest statement you can make when it comes to personal style.

While there are so many pieces to choose from for styling I think what I really learned about myself during this whole series was that sometimes we don’t really see ourselves for who we are or what we are. Stacie said it best…and I have learned to embrace some of the features that God gave me…or shall I say my momma gave me. The lines, my nose, my hips, my thighs. So I say let all the haters knock the selfies…they are just mad they haven’t taken a sexy boudoir selfie! Haha!
