Keep Your Edge: 5 Casual Weekend Style Ideas

It’s Friday and the weekend is on its way. Thankfully. Unless your plans include a dinner date, weekend style is generally all about keeping it casual. However, that doesn’t have to mean boring and plain. Here are five ideas for adding a little bit of an edge to your casual style this weekend.

Layered denim jacket. One of my favorite uses for a denim jacket and a currently a trend that I’m happy to see returning this winter. If it fits properly – snug around your torso – it’ll keep the warmth in and the wind out.

Turtleneck. I’m going to keep preaching this gospel. Turtlenecks are only stuffy if you’re stuffy. I love how they add some elegance and refinement even to casual looks.

Silk scarf. Less for the warmth, more for the style. In the cold we’ve been experiencing, a silk scarf is not going to keep you warm. At all. However, if the rest of your look is built around neutrals, you can use it to add in a bit of color and interest. The vintage piece I’m wearing is a very odd length – only about 18″ – but tucks in nicely to the denim jacket.

Ditch the watch. It’s the weekend. You don’t need to know what time it is. Instead, adorn your wrists with some simple beads and edgy metal.

Standout sneakers. Other than my running shoes, I have exactly two pairs of sneakers. A simple pair of white leather low tops that you’ve seen many times and this more distinctive pair of black suede and patent leather Lanvins. A little more luxe. A little more unique. A little more grown up. These aren’t for everyday wear, but I like to pull them out when I’m feeling a bolder and want to make a bit of a statement.
