Master Closet | Makeover Reveal

Happy Christmas, friends! Or what feels like Christmas anyway, because I can hardly believe the space I’m sharing today! In fact, I have no words. No clever anecdotes, not an ounce of sarcasm, and not a single hashtag. This glorious closet has left me speechless! #dontgetusedtoit #oopsIhashtagged

Because not only is our Master Closet now more glorious than my wildest dreams, but I had the privilege of overhauling it from top to bottom with one of my favorite stores, The Container Store. Seriously, angels sing every time I walk in.

Right?! I have heart palpitations every time I walk in. But before you can truly appreciate the magic The Container Store, and my Contained Home Organizer, created, let me remind you of where we started…the tragic befores. Okay, maybe that’s a tad dramatic, but I’m prone to it. (See all the Befores here.)

Even though we had a fair number of built-ins, they weren’t conducive to our things…or my height. And without dressers in the bedroom, we were forced to squeeze everything in the closet. Which meant lots of bins and disheveled stacks of clothes. I had some semblance of order with the hanging clothes (although the rods weren’t sturdy enough to hold them), but shoes, jeans, tees, activewear and accessories were near impossible to keep orderly, and reach (the ceilings are 12-feet!).

It wasn’t the worst set-up ever, and we were certainly making it work…but were we fully utilizing the space? No ma’am. Was it a bit of an eyesore considering how visible the room is to both our bedroom and bathroom? Oh yeah. Did it improve? Absolutely! In fact, thanks to the elfa Shelving and Drawer System, and our Contained Home Organizer, Alison, it’s hardly even recognizable as the same space!

Striped Totes | Pink Sweater | Tassel Necklace

We started by installing an entire bank of elfa Translucent Drawers to house all our folded items like tees, jeans, shorts, activewear, and undergarments. Shoes now have a prominent spot on ventilated shelves and elfa Gliding Shoe Racks, and handbags stand tall thanks to quilted purse shapers.

The elfa System alone would be jaw-dropping, but we took it to another level by adding glamorous new Crystorama chandeliers and Karastan leopard carpet. After all, the closet is the first place I go in the morning, and usually the last before bed…not to mention, hours of scheming and creating in between!

Divided compartments for the drawers, acrylic jewelry stands, and elfa bracket hooks mean all my accessories stay well-organized, and within easy reach.

Acrylic Jewelry Stands | Agate Cuff | Leopard Cuff

Leopard Carpet | Chandeliers | Shag Stool | Striped Shirt | Poncho

We took advantage of the 12-foot ceilings with a triple row of hanging rods, conveniently accessed with a step-ladder or garment hook. And more ventilated shelves, custom fit to our space, contain hats, scarves, and boots.

Garment Hook | Huggable Hangers | Gray Sweater | Hoop Earrings

Favorite Cozy Cardigan (worn as a robe, too) | Rainboots

Gray Booties | Cognac Booties | Wedge Booties | Gray Chukkas | Taupe Booties | Taupe Cutout Booties

All-Star Sneakers | Nikes | Loafers | Similar Nude Heels | Similar Taupe Booties | Black Booties | Patent Pumps | Floral Rainboots | Black Rainboots

The entire closet is peppered with elfa bracket hooks and valet rods, creating areas for robes, sweatshirts, and jewelry, along with places to hang outfit ideas. (I’m looking at you, 5 Ways series!) Displaying favorite pieces on decor items like trays and busts, along with adding art and a classic roman shade from The Shade Store, help the closet to feel more like a beautiful room.

Similar Knee Boots | Koolaburra by UGG Boots

Of course we didn’t forget about Mr. SP! His clothes were all transferred to the miraculous Joy Mangano huggable hangers, along with new shelves for his hats, accessories and shoes. The woven basket (found at HomeGoods) is adorned with my beloved tassel charm, and dirty laundry is suddenly chic! The tall shelves on his side are perfect for stashing seldom-used bags and travel accessories, and the additional chandelier ensures the entire closet is bright.

He also has a few valet rods for outfit planning (so helpful when packing!), and a gliding tie and belt rack (arranged in rainbow order, of course!).

Off-season shoes are stored safely in clear shoe boxes, so I can still see the contents, but they’re kept clean. These boxes are so handy all over the house, I buy them by the case!

Not only does the room provide so much more function and easy organization, but it’s a gorgeous space that adds so much to our daily routine, and the style of the Master Suite. Let’s take one more Before and After look!

Gray Sweater | Wedge Booties

I really can’t express the joy I feel every time I walk in the closet. I find myself lingering longer, and even using it as a make-shift office! I’ve worked with The Container Store before (the source for my Craft Closet and Little Miss’s Closet), so I know the power of their elfa Shelving and Drawer System, but I was still completely blown away by the transformation and the impact it makes on our daily lives! The entire process was a delight, from the planning and installation, to the organizing and decorating…their team was amazing!

If you’ve been considering a makeover for your closet, pantry, garage, you name it…the The Container Store’s Annual elfa Sale is going on now, with 30% off all elfa products and elfa installation! I’m a firm believer and hardcore fan of their Contained Home Organizer Service, now too! For $100, you get an in-home consultation and a personalized design and organization plan! There’s no question the elfa shelving and drawer system is fabulous, but it can work so much harder for you with the help of their organizing experts.

And the coolest part of their elfa closet systems, is they’re completely customizable to your specific space and budget (most elfa projects range from $50-$2,000). No project is too big or small, and you’ll be amazed by the added space and function their systems add. Installing it may feel like a splurge in the beginning, but one that will last you for years and years. Trust me, I’ve gone the cheaper route, and was replacing it within a year.

To see even more photos and a fun video of the space, head over to their blog, The Container Stories, then hurry to The Container Store, because the big elfa Sale is only once a year, and it ends February 28!!! Happy organizing, lovebugs!
