Tips for Buying Sunglasses

Winter may be on the way but that doesn’t mean it’s time to put away the sunglasses. The winter sun can still do the same damage, and when it bounces off snow the glare can be down right painful. Even on cloudy winter days the sun’s UV rays are capable of causing damage. Sunglasses can protect the skin around your eyes from premature aging, sunburn and even skin cancer, and lower your risk of developing cataracts and other vision impairing problems. If your current pair has had a long hard summer, it’s probably time to buy a new pair, or even a pair for the whole family! You can save money by looking for a bulk wholesale distributor. Here’s what to look for.

First of all, don’t let style alone be your guide. You want to choose a pair that has full or close to full (at least 99%) blockage of UVA and UVB rays. You also want to be sure they meet or exceed ANSI Z80.3 blocking requirements and offer UV 400 protection. The tint of the lens is important too. Avoid rose and yellow tints if you drive as they can make it hard to distinguish traffic light changes. Do you hit the slopes a lot? Opt for polarized lenses because they filter out glare but be aware they can make it hard to read displays on GPS units, phones and other computerized devices.

Price matters too. The cheaper the glasses the lower the quality of the lenses, and this could lead to distortion and poor overall clarity. Cheaper glasses also don’t fit as well and that can lower the protection they offer. They might not be the most attractive ones, but large lenses and wrap around frames offer the best protection.

Whatever style you end up with, make sure to wear them year round and make sure your kids do too. Your sight is precious, protect it!
