5 Tips for Easy and Affordable Gift Wrap

I feel like I’ve been MIA for the last week. Really, I have been. This holiday season has given me a one-two punch. I didn’t even do Christmas cards till yesterday…and I always do a Christmas card! Thank goodness for one-hour photo…

So with the holidays getting busier and more complicated, I always need to look for simple solutions to make life a little easier. After spending hours wrapping gifts, I realized that I don’t have to do elaborate gift wrap for my presents to look beautiful. Using simple gift wrap supplies, I created lovely wrapped gifts that compliment my Christmas decor. Check out my 5 tips for easy and affordable gift wrap…

1. I love to use coordinating gift wrap. By mixing patterns, but staying in the same color family, you can create a cohesive display of your presents under the tree. It creates interest and looks beautiful.

2. Use your Christmas decor theme in your gift wrapping. This year, I decided to use Black, White and Burlap for my holiday decorations, so I chose to use black and white gift wrap with burlap ribbon and details.

3. Mix up how you use your gift wrap and ribbons. Make sure each present has its own look, mixing up the ribbon you use and how you use it. I love to create traditional bows, but I also like to mix it up, giving each gift a specific style. Some packages may have curly ribbon and some may have simple twine. Some even have layered ribbon. It’s another simple way to add interest and texture.

4. Do the unexpected, like layering your ribbon to add interest to your packages. Since I choose to use burlap in my decor, I decided to take a simple strip of burlap fabric and layer it with some black ribbon. It was an easy idea that gives a beautiful look.

5. Use gift tags that are beautiful and affordable. I don’t like to use the stick-on gift tags, because there are such beautiful alternatives out there that are easy and cost-effective. There are two ways to go…DIYing your own and buying tags from a craft store. This year, I did both… But, if you just don’t have the time to DIY it, then I recommend stopping by a craft store and grabbing a package of ready-made tags. I found packs of simple tags that look like a chalkboard at Michael’s. I tied them on with some black and white baker’s twine. All I had to do was add the name!

Christmas gift wrap doesn’t have to be complicated. You don’t have to add fresh greenery and red berries to have gorgeous packages. Simple gift wrap works if you coordinate with your holiday decor, mix it up, add some texture and most of all…make it easy! The holidays are complicated enough without spending hours wrapping and fretting too much…

Happy Holidays!
