The department store and Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday that the 39th annual show will be on display near midtown and the South Street Seaport, allowing New Yorkers in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens a chance to view the fireworks. This is the second year in a row that the show is on the East River, after a five-year stint on the Hudson River. “Last year, we brought Macy’s incredible fireworks back to the East River — and this year, with barges up and down the river, even more New Yorkers will be able to take part,” the mayor said in a statement. Four barges will launch 40,000 pyrotechnic shells during a 25-minute synchronized display between 23rd and 37th streets and near the Brooklyn Bridge. “With two locations, firing 1,600 shells per minute, this year’s show will cover a large stretch of the city’s famed skyline with incredibly vibrant color and fantastic effects,” Amy Kule, the show’s executive producer said in a statement. The fireworks will begin at 9:20 p.m. preceded by several live musical acts.
