Peter & Ali’s Wedding {Portland} – Part 1

It’s been a long time, huh?! You see, Portland left Kevin and I with a week-long hangover. By the time we got back to normal life, it was Forecastle weekend and we got set back a few more days. So now I’m finally feeling like a real, functioning human being after two weekends of WAY too much fun. So let’s back up, shall we?

Ah yes, Portland!

Our flight wasn’t until Wednesday evening and we connected in Salt Lake City. We’ve never been to Utah before so technically since it was our first visit, we grabbed a local beer. Drinking a beer in state you’ve never been to means you’ve actually visited that state, right? Even if it’s in the airport? Okay good. It counts.

Our next flight wasn’t so bad – it had free movies so we watched The Judge and I got pissed at the ending because it wasn’t all happily ever after. I digress.

Flying to/from the West coast ain’t no joke. Our flight got into Portland at 11:30 p.m. PST Wednesday night, which was 2:30 a.m. our time. Peter picked us up from the airport and drove us the couple of hours back to his apartment on the coast, meaning we basically didn’t get to bed around 6 a.m. our time. (I can’t complain too much. I slept like a baby in the car.)

We were too excited to be with two of our best friends celebrating their wedding week, so we didn’t sleep in very late. We got up and got a tour of their apartment and walked to the beach. They live RIGHT on the beach. It was basically in their backyard. So amazing!

Later that morning, we drove up to Newport, Oregon to see where Ali grew up and visit the bay boardwalk.

The weather was exactly how I imagined it would be. Foggy, drizzly and pretty gorgeous if you ask me. The trees and beach were just beautiful.

Once we were done with the beach, we ventured up to Portland to check into the hotel and do some wedding tasks like picking up the tuxes and getting ready for the rehearsal.

Fun fact about Oregon: you can’t pump your own gas there. It’s illegal! Crazy, right?

The evening finally arrived and it was time for the rehearsal.

Their wedding site was absolutely gorgeous. It was on a small winery just outside of Portland and had a great barn area for the reception right next to where the outdoor ceremony was held.

Afterwards, the bridal party went to a local restaurant, McMenamins, for dinner and beer. I’ll never tell how many pitchers of IPA we ordered, but I will throw Ali under the bus (mostly because she looks gorg in this picture) and show you all that her small $12 wine sampler was actually six glasses of wine. The moral of the story is, if you’re ever in Oregon, go to McMenamins and get the wine sampler. Best deal in town.

The hotel we stayed in was pretty legit, and most of our rooms were right next to each other so we went to Fred Meyer (Kentucky, can we please get a glorious Fred Meyer?) to pick up a lot of great local beer to continue the night.

Perhaps a few rounds of college drinking games were played, and we had the best time being all together again.

Alrighty, I think that’s enough for tonight! Up next: brewcycle in downtown Portland and their rehearsal dinner.
