Veet’s newly released Spawax kit was sitting in my room for a few weeks until finally this weekend I got around to testing it out.
The Spawax kit is described by Veet as a quality wax warming system that melts the wax and maintains it at the ideal temperature, giving you salon-perfect results at home. Formulated for smooth application, simply apply the wax and allow it to become dry to the touch. The wax can easily be removed in one go, removing hairs as short as 2mm - no strips are required.

What is the difference between Strip Less Wax and Strip Wax?
Hot wax is also known as strip less wax and it’s a peel off wax applied thickly on the skin and removed with your fingertips. It is used for waxing sensitive & delicate areas as it is gentler.

Strip Wax or warm wax is applied thinly and removed with a waxing strip; this is great for larger areas of skin such as the legs, arms, back, chest and some facial waxing.
Veet say it is suitable for use on legs, arms, underarms and bikini line and NOT SUITABLE for use on head, face, eyes, nose, and ears or around the ‘down town Lester Brown’ area. Ahem. I think this has more to do with healthy and safety, so people with no waxing experience don’t burn their tender bits and sue anyone, as in reality, hot wax/strip less wax is the best wax for these areas compared to strip waxing, as it is much more gentle.
Do not use on varicose veins, scars, moles, spotty, broken, irritated, sunburnt skin or on skin that has had an adverse reaction to waxes in the past. Always leave 72 hours between hair removal sessions on the same area. This is true for all types of waxing.

How to Use

Place the appropriate number of wax discs for the body area you wish to depilate into the pot. I think they slightly underestimated how many people would need, especially beginners, I would suggest heating all of the discs as the last thing you want to do is wax one leg, then run out of wax. Plug in the pot - the warmer will begin to melt the discs. The wax is ready to use when it achieves a smooth consistency – I would say it took 40 minutes for all of them to melt.
Scoop wax onto the spatula and apply a layer of wax to the thickness of an orange peel in the direction of hair re-growth. Don’t make it too thin. You want to be making an oval shape with the wax with an extra lip/tab at the end, which will come in handy when ripping off the wax. If your wax is stringy then it’s not hot enough, leave it to warm for a bit longer.
Wait for 30 to 60 seconds until the wax becomes dry to the touch. Hold your skin taut. Grasp the thicker end of the wax, and pull the strip back as quickly as you can, against the direction of hair growth. If there are any little bits of wax stuck on your leg still, press the bit of wax you have just ripped off against them to try and get them to stick back on, and then pull off again. After waxing, clean away any wax residue using any kind of oil (baby oil, coconut oil) etc.
I should preface this review by saying that I am trained in waxing, have an NVQ in Beauty that covered a section on both types of waxing and had further training with Lycon who are a great salon brand (the best in my opinion). So it’s going to be easier for me because I know what you’re supposed to do.

My tips for at-home waxing would be

• Do it over an old towel in case there is any mess
• Wear thin plastic/rubber gloves the first few times to avoid getting wax on your hands
• Exfoliate the area you are waxing the day before to get rid of the dead skin
• Don’t wax after a hot shower or bath as it may cause bruising.

Pros I found the kit really easy to use on the few hairs I have left after laser treatment of my bikini area and on my underarms. The wax is on the thinner side for a strip less wax consistency so it spreads well and gives you time to apply it before drying. The wax pot is a good design and keeps the wax at a good consistency. The pot also lights up when it's on so it's obvious when you have forgotten to turn it off!
The scent of the wax is really nice which is necessary as it carries through your whole house so you wouldn't want it to smell bad (it doesn't really make a difference to the waxing experience however). In comparison to other home waxing products such as wax strips or just microwaveable hot wax, this is much better, makes removal of shorter hairs possible and is very gentle. It is very similar to a salon hot wax treatment.
Cons The wax discs are quite small and don’t go a long way, and the replacements are not exactly that cheap. I think a bag of wax beads would melt quicker and work out more economical.
If you aren't good at fiddly beauty treatments you might find it hard at first as it does require a bit of practice and being able to gauge by sight that you have the right size and thickness of the wax applied to the skin. If you normally use strips then this is a bit more complicated a time consuming. If you shave or use a hair removal cream then it's a whole different product so you cannot really compare.
I'd definitely recommended this wax kit as one of the best available on the high street and as a cheaper alternative to the salon but suggest that you keep in mind that waxing at home can be fiddly.
