MY DIY | Pineapple Print Pillow

Still on my fruit kick, I thought I would give one of my pillows a tropical makeover with a pineapple print. But before we get to DIYing, can we talk about this chair? It’s my most recent thrift store purchase, and at $20, I think it is the steal of the century. I’m still figuring out a place for it…if only I had a giant back patio….until then, it will be a wicker thrown in the corner of my apartment. Now on to pineapples: I was so happy with how my stamp turned out! I know there are books upon books upon blogs on stamping and printmaking techniques, but I prefer figuring out my own way, and a little trial and error. I bought two carving blocks to get the feel for cutting out the pineapple, and by the second one I was golden! The key was to cut slowly, and deep, so the outline would really show. For more on supplies and steps, check out after the break…

What you need:
Carving Block
Carver with assorted cutters
Block
Paintbrush
Fabric paint
Pillow Case
Pen
Glue

What to do:
First, draw your pineapple design on the carving block.
Next, cut out your outline.
Then, carve away everything outside of the pineapple.
When finished, adhere a wood block to the back of the carved pineapple stamp.
Test your stamp by painting the pineapple, and then pressing down on a piece of paper. If any of the lines are not showing clearly, carve out deeper.
When perfected, stamp a pillow case or table cloth. If using fabric paint, heat set with an iron after the paint dries. Done!
