Nike x Sacai Collaboration

So this happened, and I think it’s pretty amazing. A capsule collection from NikeLab in collaboration with Japanese design studio, Sacai, that aims to redefine women’s sportswear by incorporating pleats, tailored panelling and lace. The NikeLab x sacai collection is ‘designed for the body in motion’, its intention to create ‘feminine’ pieces that still retain their functionality. The capsule collection combines innovative materials and high voltage colour combinations in a look that’s more high fashion than high jumps.

Sacai designer, Chitose Abe, founded the fashion house in Tokyo in 1998, and has rapidly become known for her reinvention of traditional silhouettes into fluid, voluminous, fashion-forward garments with a ‘reverence for movement’. (It’s little surprise to find out that her design background included a long stint at Comme des Garçons). For the range, Abe studied the Nike archives to find classic sportswear pieces to ‘renovate’. Pieces include the Tech Fleece crew, Tech Fleece hooded sweatshirt with a specially bonded zip (attached without sewing), the gorgeous Sport Skirt, a graphic t-shirt and Tech Fleece Dress. Her next generation Air Max has been transformed into a slip-on with Fuse technology and wedge-effect, in contrasting hues of white, grey and flashes of lumo yellow. This is the sportswear of the future, now, and I am smitten. Somebody get me one of those windbreakers, now!
