1st NYX lip haul! {ft. Simply Nude Lip Creams & Butter Lipstick}

Purchased/Affiliate Links

It was a funny moment when I realized that NOT ONCE had I tried a lip product from NYX. Lipstick is a category NYX seems to be known for, and I seemed to have just skipped right over the selection all these years. Well, that finally changed a couple of weeks ago when Ulta ran its 40% off sale on NYX and a few other brands. I had my eye on several products for quite some time, so I decided to snag them while on sale.

Without further ado, keep reading for my review & swatches of two new NYX Simply Nude Lip Creams and a Butter Lipstick in Pops!

NYX Simply Nude Lip Creams in Fairest and Exposed ($6.50/each)

I had been so excited to snag some of the new Simply Lip Creams since they launched (specifically the Simply Vamp shades, but sadly my Ulta was completely sold out at the time). Seriously, call me a jumbo lip crayon addict, because it’s true. For some reason they seem way more fun to apply than regular ‘ole lipstick. I picked up two shades:

Fairest is described as a “pink beige” and is one of the lightest shades in the bunch. This color gives me concealer lips to the max- not the most flattering look on my skin tone, but it might be one to consider if paler nudes work on you. My biggest issue with Fairest, besides the color, is that it really clings to lip lines and tends to look patchy (see my lip swatch below). I think you can kind of get around this with darker colors, but pale nudes really show it off.

Exposed is described as a “reddish brown”, though I think I get more of an orange undertone (at least on me). Sadly, this shade was another miss on my skin tone. I did think the formula was much better: not nearly as patchy as Fairest, and overall looked much more flattering on the lip.

In regard to how these Simply Nude Lip Creams feel on the lips, they’re creamy and a bit slippery. In regard to wear, I get about 3 hours before I need to reapply.

NYX Butter Lipstick in Pops ($6.00/each)

Pops is described simply as “mauve”, which I think is wildly accurate for this shade. It matches my natural lip color almost perfectly- it’s the lipstick I’ve been reaching up for when I just want my lips to look more “polished”. Pigmentation is pretty good- not as full as the Simply Lip Creams above, but more like a heavily tinted lip balm (it feels like one, too).

Swatches:

Like I said, I was kind of underwhelmed at how the two Simply Nude Lip Creams looked on my skin tone… so I decided to layer all three lip products. The resulting look was similar to the Kyle Jenner 90’s lip, and something I could actually leave the house wearing:

Do you ever layer lip products that don’t otherwise work with your skin tone?

Overall, I’d love to try more Butter Lipsticks, and definitely the Simply Red or Simply Vamp Lip Creams (those nudes are just not for me, I think)!

What NYX lip products have you tried and love?

Hope you guys have a great day, and thanks for reading!
