Is Blogging Making You a Narcissist?

If you run a blog mainly about what you’re wearing, or you’re a dedicated daily #selfie taker, chances are someone has thought (out loud or to themselves) that you’re narcissistic. And maybe you are, a little. Freud said normal people have a healthy amount of narcissism. And it’s just that: healthy and normal. We should love ourselves a little bit.

We should love ourselves a little bit.

Narcissistic personality disorder, on the other hand, is a pathological diagnosis that affects about 1% of the population. You can get a hint and where you fall on the spectrum by taking this 40-question quiz at Psych Central. I scored a 12, which the site tells me is normal, whew! Celebrities typically score around 18, and people with narcissistic personality disorder usually score 20 or higher.

Narcissistic personality disorder is a pathological diagnosis that affects about 1% of the population.

But if you scored between 12 and 15, you are normal, narcissism-wise. You have a realistic amount of self-esteem. You scored about the same as most other folks who don’t take selfies (if any of those still exist) and who don’t have fashion blogs. So next time someone calls you narcissistic because of your #OOTD ways? Say: “Thank you.”
