Make Your Blog A Better Place

These are a few things that I have learnt in the limited time that I have been blogging since. So here I am just putting forward a few pointers which in my opinion must always be taken care of. Of course my opinion need not resonate with yours. But read if you think this might help.

1) Post as and when convenient but do not post bad pictures or repeated content just because you need a post for the week. In today’s day where there are over a million fashion blogs, try to make yours stand out by using content or ideas which have not been dealt with before. Don’t do a post on how to make a braid especially when you know 10 other people just did that. Be original.

2) Learn to say NO. Just because someone else collaborated with a brand, doesn’t mean you do so too even though you don’t relate to it. A lot of websites have contacted me to write for them/or brands to preview their collections etc. but if I have not been able to relate to it, I have politely refused it. Create your own market value.

3) Stop with the sheep mentality. You don’t need to wear a particular brand or own a particular pair of shoes just because 10 other international bloggers own them and because they swear by it. Being a fashion bloggers calls for being experimental but not at the expense of your comfort.

4) Communicate. It’s very important for you to market yourself. Interact with your followers, on
your blog or your Facebook page or on twitter, whichever is convenient to you. This adds a personal touch and makes your blog different from all those bloggers who log on to blogger, write a brag story and sign out until the next brag story of course.

5) Pay attention to your pictures. I know it can sometimes we difficult to shoot pertaining to weather conditions, distances, personal commitments, etc. But for the love of god do not put up a blurry picture or a video which is done halfheartedly. It shouts out nothing but unprofessional.

6) Be picky. Talk about what you want to. Show what you want to. As much as it is important to make sure you don’t disrespect others, it’s also very imperative that you say your mind out. After all it’s your blog!

7) Stick to simple blog layouts. Don’t cramp it up with advertisements, etc. You never want the focus to shift from your content to anything else.

8) Lastly, there are always going to be people who do not agree with you, send you hate mails, write nasty things in your comments section, etc. I’ve had a decent share of all this and I'm sure you have too but what I’ve learnt from this is ‘you can’t please everyone’. And frankly you don’t have to. Be confident and don’t let this put you down.

9) Maintain a good relationship with fellow bloggers. This will help you get a better perspective of things and you can always discuss similar problems. Promote each other on your blogs, do guest blogs. This is a healthy way of sharing viewership.
