My Favorite Pinwheel Recipes
Whether you call them pinwheels or roll-ups, these flavor-packed swirly bites have become party classics. I love them because of the myriad flavor combinations you can put together. And just like their namesakes of the paper variety, these colorful pinwheel recipes will capture the attention of your guests and up the fun of your next celebration.
For this collection, I rounded up pinwheel recipes I’ve created and posted on Inspired by Charm during the past several years. To make a pinwheel, you simply spread filling on a flour tortilla, roll it up, and slice it. All of these pinwheel recipes are pretty simple, and not surprisingly, quite popular with readers of the blog.
My Favorite Pinwheel Recipes:
Buffalo Chicken Pinwheels: If you’re a fan of Buffalo wings, you will want to make these pinwheels. Just cook chicken breasts and allow them to cool. Then chop the meat and mix it with cheese, onion, spices, and, of course, Buffalo wing sauce. I like to serve these pinwheels with celery sticks. If you prefer, you could also provide ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping.
Italian Sub Sandwich Pinwheels: These pinwheels channel the flavors of a classic Italian sub. A layer of cream cheese is blended with Italian seasonings and sub fixings, such as chopped banana peppers and black olives, is topped with pepperoni, salami, Provolone, tomato slices, and mixed greens. After you roll the tortillas up, insert a few toothpicks to hold them together. Your guests will want seconds and thirds of these pinwheels, so make plenty.
Sun-Dried Tomato Basil Pinwheels: The filling for these pinwheels is a mixture of cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, garlic, and fresh basil leaves. The green and red elements play off each other, giving these pinwheels a delectable look and flavor. I promise you’ll be finding excuses to serve them.
Tortilla Roll-ups with Salsa Pinwheels: This pinwheel recipe gets its visual punch from green flour tortillas. While these pinwheels are delicious with salsa any time of the year, they are perfect for the holidays when stacked in a tree shape and garnished with cherry tomato “ornaments” and a yellow pepper “star.” Can you say, “Oh, tortilla Tannenbaum”?
Cheddar Bacon Ranch Tortilla Pinwheels: In this variation of a classic pinwheel, I boosted the flavor with minced fresh herbs, cooked and chopped thick-cut bacon, and powdered ranch dressing mix. A crowd pleaser, this pinwheel recipe is another one you’ll want to keep handy during the holiday season.
A couple of general notes about these pinwheel recipes:
· I often use whole-wheat tortillas for pinwheel recipes, but you can use any type of tortilla you prefer.
· Before cutting the pinwheels, I usually refrigerate the rolled-up tortillas. This allows them to firm up, resulting in a prettier presentation.
