The BEST Fall Snack Mix

I'm excited to be back with the makers of Ball® home canning products to share this tasty Sweet and Salty Fall Snack Mix along with some beautiful food storage ideas.

I don't know about you, but I LOVE a snack mix. In the past, I've made a sweet mix such as my peanut butter pretzel puppy chow, and a salty mix such as my parmesan ranch snack mix. Today I am combining the two flavors to create a sweet and salty mix. And since it's fall, I am adding in a few seasonal goodies!

I put together this fall snack mix when my mom was visiting. Let me tell you, neither one of us could keep our hands off of it. The combo mix is so good. I sent her home with half of the batch because I knew that if it was left at my house, I would eat through the entire jar in no time at all.

What makes it so good? It's a wonderful combination of ingredients! This mix is a winning blend of salty and sweet with just a kiss of fall flavor thanks to a bit of cinnamon and maple syrup.

Let me walk you through the ingredients you'll need.

Fall Snack Mix Ingredients:

The thing I love the most about snack mixes is that you can completely customize them with all the ingredients YOU love. Here's what I used in my sweet and salty fall snack mix:

  • peanut butter corn cereal squares
  • wheat cereal squares
  • bite-size pretzels
  • cheddar cheese crackers
  • honey nut o's cereal
  • mini marshmallows
  • candy corn
  • peanut butter candy pieces

For the glaze, you will also need butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, salt, and cinnamon.

As I mentioned above, feel free to make substitutions and/or leave out ingredients that aren't your favorites. If you do this, try and fill in with other ingredients to create the same amount. For example, if you're not a fan of candy corn, remove it and add an extra cup of peanut butter candies. If you don't like pretzels, leave them out and add two cups of mini graham crackers.

Side note: I know that using cheddar cheese crackers with a sweet mix might sound a bit odd, but trust me, it's wonderful!

Beautiful and Functional Storage Solution:

As you can see, I have all of my ingredients well organized in various Ball® mason jars and pantry jars.

  1. I love storing things this way for a few reasons: The air-tight storage helps to keep my pantry staples and snacks fresher longer.
  2. The clear jars allow me to see when I'm running low on a particular item.
  3. The jars look delightful. These products are so well designed that they add to the beauty of my kitchen. I'd rather see these nice-looking jars than a bunch of boxes and bags.

Ever since I created my pantry storage using Ball® Canning Jars a few months back, I've been so excited to make the rest of my pantry storage look pretty too. All of these products have been the perfect solution. These Ball® Stack & Store jars are my current favorite.

Now that you know the ingredients you need for the snack mix (and how to store them in a functional and pleasing way), let me walk you through the recipe.

How to Prepare:

I'll walk you through the steps here, but for your convenience, I've also provided a detailed ingredient list and instructions in the printable recipe card below.

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 275 degrees F.
  2. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl toss together the corn cereal squares, wheat cereal squares, mini pretzels, cheese crackers, and honey nut o's cereal.

  1. In a small bowl whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, kosher salt, and cinnamon.
  2. Pour this mixture over the snack mix and stir evenly to coat.

  1. Spread the mixture onto the prepared baking sheets.
  2. Bake for about 25 minutes or until things start to turn a golden brown. Stir every 10 minutes.

  1. Remove from the oven and cool completely. Stir in the marshmallows, candy corn, and peanut butter candy pieces.

  1. Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container (like the Ball® Storage Latch Jars or Ball® Stack & Store Jars) for up to one week.

And that's it!

As you can see, I used some Ball® Storage Latch Jars, Ball® Stack & Store Jars, Ball® Jars with Wooden Lids, and some cute Halloween bags to store my sweet and salty fall snack mix.

The glass storage will help to keep things fresh and the little bags were just too cute.

Happy Snacking!

I hope you'll give this addicting new recipe a try. It's perfect for parties, giving as a gift, or just for having a tasty snack at home.

Enjoy!!
