Updated Guest Bedroom
Earlier this year I mentioned wanting to put the finishing touches on my guest bedroom. Well, I did. Today, I’m going show you my updated guest bedroom.
As you know, I’m moving into a new place in a few weeks. (More details on that here.) To get ready, I’ve been cleaning, organizing, and clearing the clutter in my current home. It’s not going as quickly as I would like, but I am making progress. My goal is to completely rid this house of excess stuff (There’s a lot of it!) and to put everything in its proper place. My hope is that knowing where everything is will make the transition from home to home during the year go more smoothly.
All of that information probably isn’t relevant to this post, but I’m happy to be able to cross one room off my to-do list.
As you might remember, a few years ago I painted this room and slowly started to redecorate. I don’t get many house guests, so finishing the space was never a high priority.
However, every month I write a post for the HomeGoods Design Happy blog, and this month’s post happened to be about bedrooms. I took this opportunity to put the finishing touches on this space (for now at least). You can check out my HomeGoods post here. It’s filled with tips for creating a cozy guest bedroom.
Getting wall decor for this space was a must. I ended up with this collection of rattan trays that I found in the outdoor section at HomeGoods. Three nails and five minutes later I had some classy wall art with great texture for under $40. Project complete!
I also updated several of the pillows. I found these gorgeous oversized white down-filled Ralph Lauren pillows (also at HomeGoods) that worked perfectly for the bed. I love them so much that they may end up moving with me to my new space.
I also added a couple new vases around the room. This allowed me to replace smaller items with larger statement pieces.
The biggest change or addition to this room is the gorgeous light blue velvet chair. It is the perfect blend of traditional and modern so it works well with my eclectic style. I love the lines of the piece and the dark wood-grained legs, and it’s comfortable to boot. Every guest room should have a cozy chair. (The cats seem to agree.)
Near the dresser, I swapped out an old, damaged mirror for something new. I fell in love with this big chunky wood mirror so it needed to come home with me. To be honest, I don’t love the wood-on-wood of the dresser and the mirror, but it works for now. The finish on the dresser is a bit “busted” so I might paint it down the road and change out the knobs. We’ll see.
In case you are wondering about some of the other pieces in the space:
bedframe is vintage / chandelier is from ZGallerie (no longer for sale) / art is from Lindsay Letters / trunk is from HomeGoods / lamps are from Lamps Plus / curtains and rods are from Pottery Barn / rug is from Urban Outfitters (no longer for sale).
Details on all my paint colors can be found here.
I hope you enjoyed this look at my updated guest bedroom.
