bungalow update with uncommongoods

If you’ve been reading for a while (hey thanks, by the way), you might remember I’m a fan of UncommonGoods. I’m obsessed with their unique products and could easily browse their site for hours. (Or… maybe I already have.) From the salsa competition to a wine and cheese picnic, their projects have been some of my favorites in the past.

I was recently asked to help them create a new home decor lookbook, and I jumped at the chance. I was given the opportunity to style some of their products (it was so hard to choose!) in the bungalow and which was so much fun! Suddenly our home feels much more complete, and much more like home. Little by little and piece by piece it’s all coming together and these pieces from UncommonGoods are now some of my favorites!

I’d love to share more photos of their products and how the bungalow is shaping up lately. It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I’ve been juggling lots but I assure you my time is not wasted. Hopefully I will have more updates to come! Check out the UncommonGoods home decor lookbook with photos by yours truly as well as the talented Rubyellen.

First up, this Lake Topography print, handcrafted in Harbor Springs, Michigan. I’ll take any chance I can to share some Midwest love and I thought this was ridiculously cool: it’s a three-dimensional map made of lasercut birchwood showing elevation levels and a map of The Great Lakes.

I love how the wood frame ties in well with our wood floors and stair tops. I’m in love with all of the white in our home, but Nick has been practically begging for some wood accents, and I have to say I’m surprised how much I love the combination of natural wood and white.

Next is the minimalist teak wall shelf and teak root mirror (both so rad, right?) . I wasn’t originally planning to place these together, but I just love how this series of wood and art creates warmth and interest in an otherwise quiet corner.

On the top shelf is the coastal bud vase. It’s an unexpected material for a vase, which makes its simple and organic design even more interesting.

Oh and that little painting? It’s a watercolor by Nick’s grandma, which I just love!

Art is not easy to find and choose, but I’m obsessed with this Lost Art by Wendy Gold. She created this piece by starting with a vintage map as her canvas, and used decoupage and other media to make it her own. I love how the colors have such a 70s vibe.

(Oh and by the way, I need to share updated photos of Alfie, because he looks like such a BABY in this picture!)

The Walnut Bookend Lamp by Shelli Worley with an Edison bulb adds such a fun touch. Plus it’s practical: a great place for storage and source of moody light.

We also got the WUD side table, which is actually supposed to be mounted on the wall. I thought that was so cool but unfortunately with our bungalow being built in the 20s, we weren’t quite sure it would work with plaster walls. The beautiful modern table is handmade with solid walnut wood and even gentle glide hardware for the drawers. As an alternative to hanging, I had the idea to attach hairpin legs to give it a mid-century feel. We’re so happy with the result – it adds such personality to the living room!

Last, but certainly not least, is the Texas Barnwood Chandelier. I have a soft spot for industrial design and while that’s not the style of our bungalow, I think it’s still fun to incorporate any style we love to create an eclectic home that is uniquely ours. I struggled with what light fixture to put here when we moved in but I could not have found a more perfect fit! It really transforms the space…

So what do you think? I need to mention that I could not have done all of this without my handy, lumberjack husband. He’s the best.

I’d love it if you checked out the new and beautiful home decor lookbook and UncommonGoods site.

Hope you’re having a wonderful week! :)
