Whale of a Time Birthday Fishes!

Hello, Crafters.

A little while ago I received a video request for the Whale Done Stamp Set and the Whale of a Time Designer Series Paper (DSP). Unfortunately, they weren’t products I had bought so I watched cards crafters had posted in various groups on Facebook. Slowly, slowly I started to warm to this suite – there’s also a matching punch – and finally ordered the three products last week.

My order arrived on Monday and I decided to have my first play with it yesterday for today’s card. I have to say I’m exceptionally pleased with the DSP which I used for my card. Apart from the Pretty Peacock frame being slightly wonky, I’m pleased how today’s card turned out. It’s a fun card with a fun greeting.

I went through the pack of DSP first to have a good look at all the designs. I’m sure it’ll be possible to make lots of cards just using the DSP, it really is that good! Once I had chosen the design I wanted to use I chose to use Just Jade and Pretty Peacock for my colour combo. I also used Mint Macaroon for my top layer which I embossed with the Seabed 3D Embossing Folder.

This is a prime example of not having to stay with Stampin’ Up!’s recommended colours, i.e. Mint Macaroon isn’t on the list but it works well with the other colours! The idea for the frame came when I took out my Pretty Peacock Cardstock (CS) plastic wallet and noticed in the small Ziplock bag where I put completed die-cuts, images, etc., the frame you see I used on today’s card – ready-made!

By this time I had already fussy cut the first turtle and decided to cut a piece of DSP that I could put in the frame so I could adhere the turtle on top of the one in the DSP using Dimensionals. Now I was on a roll and decided to fussy cut some more turtles so they could be adhered, part in and part out of the frame.

I chose the sentiment from the stamp set and stamped it in Pretty Peacock ink on a piece of Whisper White CS. To die-cut the sentiment – HOPING ALL YOUR BIRTHDAY FISHES COME TRUE – I used one of the dies in the Hippo & Friends Dies. You may remember when I bought these dies recently I said I’d bought them just for the layering dies; I didn’t by the stamp set that matches these dies, i.e. Hippo Happiness.

Inside the card, I added a layer of Pretty Peacock CS, and then a layer of Mint Macaroon CS. I fussy cut some of the turtles that were on the edges of the DSP with the exception of the Blackberry Bliss turtle! I didn’t have a decent-sized turtle to finish off my line of die-cuts, so I cut a complete turtle and cut part of his head off to make it look as if it had been on an edge!
My final touch was to add some very old glitter epoxy droplets in a random fashion over the embossed layer on the front of the card. I hope you like today’s fun card. I could have spent hours fussy cutting more turtle to adhere around the edge of all of the top layer inside the card! Anyway, that’s it from me today and I look forward to being back with you tomorrow. In the meantime, please take care and stay safe. Happy crafting.
