Truth Scrap Event

Hello! My little blog break will be over soon. However, I have something fun to share with you today. My friend Lain Ehmann has a unique event coming up and offered to do a guest post on my blog to tell you about it. (She is an angel for offering to pop in here!) I think her event will appeal to many of my readers – covering the topic of “the intersection of faith and art.” (I know that this subject will not appeal to all of you – and I respect that completely and hope you respect my choice to share this still-craft-related topic here.) So here is Lain… sharing a bit about the upcoming Truth Scrap event and how it came to be. If this appeals to you, please check out the coupon code below. And by the way – I hope to be a contributor to this event the next time around! – Jennifer

From Lain:

I’ve been in the scrapbooking and papercrafting industry for about a decade, and I’ve taught dozens of classes on scrapbooking, card-making, art journaling and more. And as different as each individual student is, most of us deal with some level of insecurity about our art.

I can’t tell you the number of times someone has looked at me and said, “I don’t think I’m doing this right,” or, “I just blew it.”

This completely breaks my heart! Somehow – blame Pinterest or contests or magazines or whatever – we’ve developed the idea that creativity is some kind of contest or race. That if we don’t do it “right” then our creations – and even our very selves – are “wrong.” Nothing could be further from the truth.

After struggling with my own inadequacy and lack of self-confidence, I decided to forget about “right” and “wrong” and create the things I was called to create, in the way I was called to create them. I decided to focus on THE TRUTH: The truth is that my creativity is a gift from God.

The truth is that any time we dig into our hearts and create from that space, we are honoring Him. The truth is that if we are sharing our art, we are sharing our heart – and God loves that! The truth is that just as you loved the very first scribbles your child made on a sheet of paper with a green crayon held in a chubby fist, God loves our creations – each and every one of them.

These truths often get lost amidst the product and the techniques and the desire to do it “right.” And because these truths are the secret to fearless, authentic creating, I wanted to share them. And so I created “Truth Scrap,” the latest in our family of live, online papercrafting events. These events blend the best of online learning with the best of in-person events, creating a completely unique atmosphere in which to learn, create, and connect.

Our seven instructors, including Shanna Noel, Stephanie Ackerman, Erin Bassett, Donna Salazar, Liz Hicks, Andrea Chebeleu, and Heather Greenwood – will teach on topics from “faithbooking” to Bible journaling and spiritual art journaling.

Taking place on Saturday, Jan. 31, Truth Scrap includes seven classes that will show you not just HOW to worship God with your art, but WHY, and how our instructors were able to get outside their own heads and fight their own insecurities. Techniques, yes — but even more importantly, each instructor will share her individual journey, with the intent of inspiring you to grow in your own creative path to God.
