Video: Adding Dimension to Cards + GIVEAWAY

Hi there. Today’s video is a bit different than my other videos. It’s more like a crafty service announcement. I’ve received lots of questions about why I use craft foam instead of foam tape for adding dimension to my cards. Here’s why…

Over the year, I have been noticing that cards sent through the mail with lots of foam tape pieces don’t hold up well. So the engineer in me wanted to do a bit of research. I sent two cards to myself (the mail lady thought I was a bit crazy). One card had a panel with foam tape strips behind it and the other with craft foam. The card using the craft foam for dimension held up much better in the mail. The one using foam tape was bent and had creases. Proof! So for large panels, I use fun foam.

When I purchase my fun/craft foam, I cut it into pieces slightly smaller than a standard note card so they’re ready to go. When adhering the fun foam to a card, I use a tape runner (and also squirt some Multi Matte Medium with a fine nozzle under the corners), Stick-It or Scor-Tape (aka Be Creative Tape). There is adhesive backed fun foam on the market, but I have found that it doesn’t always die-cut well.

Fun foam can also be used with your dies. They make great embellishments and can even be heated with a heat gun to be made smaller. I usually use THIS white foam but I have found THIS multi-color pack that I like as well. The colors in it are actually pretty!

I do still use my big roll of foam adhesive tape for adding small pieces. I really like it and it lasts forever.

I hope this gives you a better explanation of why I use craft foam for dimension of large pieces on my cards. I put a lot of time and love into my cards and I want to make sure they get to the recipient in good shape!
