It had been a long time since we had been sent a bunch of treats from our pals @AmericanSoda but this wrong has this week been put right with the arrival of some fantastic new American chocolates and sweets for our team to try. Over the course of our 8 year history we have often been approached about reviewing sugar free chocolates. We've been a little reluctant to in the past given some bad experiences, however we were excited to see how a sugar free version of one of out all time favourite American chocolates could hold up against their originals - Reese's Sugar Free Peanut Butter Miniatures (See HERE).

AmericanSoda sent us a bag weighing in at 85.0g - this contained 8 miniatures that two of our team divided amongst themselves. On the face of the packet they looked very similar to the original miniatures, just with the additional 'Sugar Free' branding clearly evident. One thing we did note was the 'not a low calorie food' line also included which made us laugh out loud. Out the packet they cups looked no different to normal with orange foil wrappers complimented by the usual paper cup sleeves.

For a bit of fun we didn't tell one of the taste testers these were a sugar free version so they went into the taste test not knowing they were sampling a slightly different Reese's peanut butter cup. When it came down to it they did reference that they tasted different from normal but couldn't really determine what it was until it was revealed they were sugar free. At this point they were able to say with confidence that it was the chocolate that was a little lacking in taste and the peanut butter a little more salty than usual. In regards to the chocolate this wasn't so much an issue given Reese's don't usually have the best chocolate anyway. The reporter however did comment that the peanut butter could of done with a little extra sweetness.

Overall these Reese's Sugar Free Peanut Butter Miniatures weren't received as warmly as their originals but given the context they were sugar free the team had nothing but positive things to say about them. Given that sugar is such an important part to both chocolate and peanut butter it was outstanding that these actually tasted as good as they did. Granted some may not like the added sweetener the product but if you can look past that you will likely really enjoy these. Give them a try if you require less sugar in your diet but love your chocolate peanut butter snacks.
