Geology Field Trip -- Day 5 of 7 at Yulara, Ayers Rock 03.Jun.15

Two nights at Kings Canyon down; onward to two nights at Ayers Rock. Uluru has been at the top of my wish list before moving to Australia. The sneaky peeks from afar added to the anticipation. It must be massive.

About a 3-hour drive, Kings Canyon to Yulara, this time.

I just want to bottle that fine red sand and make it into paint. Vegetation was so uniform as far as the eye can see, looking like a mere handful of plant types to my untrained eye. What you do not see in the photos are the uncountable masses of houseflies that use your head as target practice.

We followed them into the national park with the unmistakable Ayers Rock in sight.

Given how Uluru is an aboriginal sacred spot, I have no photos. You will have to take my word for it that it is so big and imposing. Every angle looks different. There are rock shelters and erosions and even water bodies around it.

As the group had plans to walk Uluru at sunset, Hubs and I took our Base Walk earlier. 10.6 KM felt like forever with no end in sight, thirsty and tired.

We made it in 3 hours, speed-walking like crazy, finally finding our way to our accommodation in Ayers Rock Resort, Yulara. Got ourselves cleaned and ambled our way into a buffet dinner two doors from our room. Quite a day.
