Aveda Smooth Infusion Smoothing Masque

Last week I paid a visit to Aveda’s Lifestyle Salon and Spa in Covent Garden for a smoothing blow-dry with Textured Hair Specialist, Subrina Kidd. It was an opportunity to try Aveda’s new Smooth Infusion Smoothing Masque, a deep conditioning treatment that softens hair whilst reducing frizz and unwanted volume by half.

For a Thursday evening, the place was busy and buzzing yet among all the humdrum I was able to loosen up with a relaxing head and shoulder massage ahead of my wash and blow-dry. I cannot believe how light I felt after; the amount of stress buried in my shoulders was shocking.

Now my hair has been on quite a journey in the last few years and I’m heading nicely towards my goal of growing it longer. This has also meant shaking off an old habit of keeping it poker straight with straighteners. Instead I’ve been enjoying a rotating brush which gives my tresses bounce and body. It also puts far less strain on my hair so regaining the strength is finally becoming a reality.

After an in-depth consultation with Subrina we decided to incorporate the Smooth Infusion smoothing masque with the bounce and volume I have become hooked on. This meant concentrating only on the mid-length and ends of my hair, a formula that suits my fine hair well.

You see, the first time I used the masque at home, I made the error of the amount recommended which was too much and starting it from a few inches from my roots. Let it be known that the size recommended for one person may not be the right amount for you. A 50p size would cover my friend Leanne’s thick mane easily but made my hair heavy and greasy. I realised I needed to halve the quantity and focus only on mid to end and as a result, the outcome is much more favourable.

My hair feels lusciously soft to touch without that sticky feeling. The masque also controls the frizz and while my roots can become greasy, the ends are usually dry so it counteracts this issue. It also makes blow-drying and styling with the rotating brush even easier and leaves my locks with a shine, bringing out the colour. You could say I’ve fallen big time for Smooth Infusion.

So what’s in it that works so well? The masque contains a blend of emollient-rich, sustainably sourced Organic Cupuacu and Organic Shea butter, which creates a lightweight barrier around each strand of hair to condition and smooth the cuticle. The barrier – created by these rich plant butters – help the hair to retain the necessary moisture, yet continuing to lock out external environmental moisture that can cause frizz. I think this masque will do wonders for thick hair, especially colour/bleach damaged.

As for the blow-dry, I left feeling like a superstar and received countless compliments the next day at work. Now THIS is what I call a good hair day.

Aveda’s Smooth Infusion Smoothing Masque costs £22 for 150ml. Find it right here.
