Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm

There is something extremely satisfying about using a cleansing balm to wipe your face clean. Nothing else seems to get beneath the surface in dislodging dirt, grime and make-up and at the same time it feels like you are giving yourself a mini facial every time.

Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm* is the latest one I’ve been using for a couple of months. It’s a no-nonsense, fragrance-free and skin-friendly cleansing balm suitable for all skin types that transforms from a solid to a silky, non-greasy fluid oil upon application.

After I’ve wiped off most of the war paint with some micellar water solution, I use a small scoop on the fingertip to massage all over my face and neck. The balm is wonderful at catching any bits the initial cleanse missed out, including stubborn mascara. Instructions suggest rinsing well with warm water but I choose to emulsify the balm and work it in before wiping the excess off with a warm, damp flannel, which is far more thorough. The balm doesn’t strip the face of its natural oils nor does it dry it out.

Take The Day Off comes in a 125ml pot and at £22 is gives you every penny that it’s worth (and is just shy of half the price of Elemis’ Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm). It isn’t scented (as mentioned above) which is a minor drawback if you crave a little luxury but when it does the job more than adequately, there really is no justification in complaining.
