Foundation files (7): Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation

If you’re going to change things up, it has to be something mind-blowing that will set you apart from the others or you might as well not get out of bed. This is what Make Up For Ever has done with its latest foundation, the Ultra HD*.

Recognised as pioneers of developing HD friendly make-up back in 2008, the new Ultra HD foundation has been formulated to address the needs of make-up artists and consumers as technology advances at such a rapid speed and those pesky 4k cameras pick up every pore so MUFE thought, “f*** you, you’re not going to win this” and lo and behold, that’s how Ultra HD foundation came about. (By the way I googled 4K cameras – which are four times higher than full HD – and us folks have nothing to worry about because that shizz costs a lot and used by the mega pros). Now that we’ve established this foundation is brilliant for 4K cameras, it is most certainly damn fine for HD.

When the MUFE make-up artist in Debenhams applied the new foundation on me, the difference was noticeable immediately…and I mean, IMMEDIATELY. I normally find foundations take a while to ‘settle’ in but Ultra HD is like rolling on a fresh new layer of skin.

Ultra HD, which is packed full of new-generation reflecting particles, blurs out the fine lines and wrinkles, masking and correcting imperfections and boosts luminosity for a flawless complexion. It also contains hyaluronic acid to give continual hydration though I back it up with MUFE’s Step 1 Skin Equalizer radiant primer, which is ideal for dehydrated skin.

I thought I’d had it figured with Make Up For Ever’s HD foundation because that one is superb but after wearing the Ultra HD for two weeks, I’m ready to ask for a divorce with the former (and I have back-up bottle in my drawer).

If you are a fan of the original HD foundation, MUFE has helpfully paired up the original shade names with the new ones. I’m 153 Golden Honey in HD which is Y405 in Ultra HD. Common sense, I know but it could have been overlooked. The bottle, although may look the same as the original with its identical shape and lid, is distinguishable from the thick silver band below the pump.

Here’s my non-airbrushed mug shot (not that I airbrush anything) taken against natural daylight. I’m not in my twenties so give me a break.

Make Up For Ever’s Ultra HD foundation is priced at £29 and is available in 40 staggering shades from Debenhams’ flagship store on London’s Oxford Street, online at www.debenhams.com and Guru Make-Up Emporium.
