Interview + Valentinstagsgewinnspiel: Little Ell

Diese süße Illustration von Sven und mir habt ihr schon auf meinem Valentinstag – Sweet Table entdecken können. Die Zeichnungen von Sonja von Little Ell* habe ich schon lange bewundert – umso mehr habe ich mich gefreut, als ich bei ihr bei einem Gewinnspiel gewonnen habe und sie dieses tolle Bild von uns entwarf… eine tolle Erinnerung an unseren Urlaub in Paris!
Heute möchte ich euch Sonja in einem kurzen Interview vorstellen. Außerdem könnt ihr ebenfalls eine personalisierte Illustration oder einen Artprint von Little Ell gewinnen, juhu!

You could already see this sweet illustration of Sven and me on my Valentine’s Day Sweet Table. I’ve admired the works by Sonja of Little Ell* for a long time – and so I was super excited when I won a custom illustration in one of her giveaways! It’s a sweet reminder of our trip to Paris!
Today I have a little interview with Sonja for you – and you can win a custom illustration or an art print by her, yay! The giveaway is open worldwide.

Hallo Sonja! Stell dich doch erstmal vor!

Ich heiße Sonja und ich komme ursprünglich aus Serbien. Nachdem ich mein Architekturstudium in der Slowakei abgeschlossen habe, habe ich eine Praktikumsstelle in Deutschland bekommen. Das ist jetzt fast 8 Jahre her und ich bin immer noch in meiner Wahlheimat München. Inzwischen habe ich geheiratet und zwei süße Töchter.

Wie ist Little Ell entstanden?

Schon als Kind habe ich davon geträumt Malerin zu werden. Das Zeichnen war meine Lieblingsbeschäftigung. Im Studium habe ich auch viel mit der Hand gezeichnet. Aber die Liebe zur Illustration habe ich erst nach dem Studium entdeckt. Ich wusste gleich, das will ich für immer machen! Mein Zeichenstil hat sich sehr spontan und natürlich entwickelt und ist gleich sehr gut bei meinen Freunden angekommen. Danach bei deren Freunden usw…. Wie es eben bei Social Networks so läuft. Viele haben gefragt, wo sie die Illustrationen kaufen können, und so habe ich meinen DaWanda Shop eröffnet.

Hey Sonja! Tell us a little bit about you!

My name is Sonja and I am originally from Serbia. After I finished my studies in architecture in Slovakia, I got an internship in Germany. That was almost 8 years ago and I’m still in my adopted home of Munich. Meanwhile, I got married and have two sweet daughters.

How was Little Ell created?

Even as a child I dreamed of becoming a painter. Drawing was my favorite activity. During my studies I’ve drawn a lot by hand. But I discovered my love of illustration only after graduation. I knew right away that I wanted to do that for good! My drawing style has developed very spontaneously and naturally and was immediately well received by my friends. Then, by their friends, and so on… you know how fast some things can spread in social networks. Many asked where they could buy my illustrations, so I opened my DaWanda shop.

Wie machst du andere auf deinen Shop aufmerksam?

Seit September 2014 habe ich die Aktion #sketchmelittleell auf Instagram laufen. Jeder der von mir gezeichnet werden will, darf sein Foto mit dem #sketchmelittleell Hashtag markieren. Ich suche mir immer, wenn ich ein bisschen Zeit habe, nach Lust und Laune, ein Foto aus zum Zeichnen. Meistens sind es Bilder von einer Person, weil ich mehr zeitlich nicht schaffe. Es besteht die Möglichkeit diese, schon gezeichneten Bilder, in meinem Shop nachher zu kaufen, zum Sonderpreis von nur einem Kunstdruck (die Arbeit ist in diesem Fall ein Geschenk von mir).

Was ist das schönste, das du bisher mit Little Ell erreicht hast?

Durch diese Aktion auf Instagram habe ich sehr viele nette Leute kennengelernt und es haben sich viele neue interessante Möglichkeiten eröffnet die mich meinem Traum, Vollzeit-Illustratorin zu werden, ein Stück näher gebracht haben. Aber das schönste für mich ist so oft zu hören, dass meine Illustrationen genau das ausstrahlen, was ich reingesteckt habe: gute Laune und Liebe. Das macht mich glücklich!

How do you make others aware of your shop and your work?

In September 2014, I started the hashtag #sketchmelittleell on Instagram. Everyone who wants to be drawn by me, can mark their photo with the hashtag #sketchmelittleell. I always pick one of these pictures when I’m in the mood and have a little bit of time on my hands and draw that person. Usually there are images of one person, because I can not make more time. You can purchase these already drawn images in my shop afterwards, at a special price of only an art print (in that case, the work is a gift from me).

What’s the best thing you have achieved so far with Little Ell?

Because of this hashtag on Instagram, I got to know many nice people and many new and interesting possibilities opened which brought me a little closer to my dream of becoming a full-time illustrator. But the best thing for me is to hear so often that my illustrations radiate exactly what I put into them: happiness and love. That makes me happy!

Was sind deine Pläne für 2015?

Ich habe sehr viel vor im neuen Jahr. Ich werde neue Produkte und Pakete in meinem Shop anbieten und eine eigene Webseite online stellen. Und die #sketchmelittleell Aktion wird weiter gehen. Darüber hinaus arbeite ich noch an anderen spannenden Projekten. Man darf gespannt sein!

What are your plans for 2015?

I have a lot of plans for the new year. I’m going to offer new products and packages in my shop and start my own website. And the #sketchmelittleell action will continue. In addition, I am still working on other exciting projects. It will be interesting!
