The Mickey Mouse Club

Madam here ^ was away all week on what she called one of the worst school camps EVER!! She called it Camp Shite!! Not worthy of our hard earned dollars, she told us to never send her to Camp Shite ever again because she missed us too much. Bless. While she was away I thought i’d surprise her with a new outfit. I scored this great Mikey and Mini Mouse curtain —among other fab fabrics, whilst wandering Sydney’s Flemington Markets with my friend. I used the top of the curtain for the skirt, the pleating already in place, all I needed to do was place the zip in and hem it. We love the tabs around the waistline.

The jacket on the other hand was a lot of work. I drafted it from another jacket, it’s not my best work, a lot of matching up. The top bodice facing is lined up with the graphics on the two front panels, the panel that runs down under the pockets is matched up to the body panel then the pocket then the pocket flap. So. many. layers. The matching up isn’t too bad I guess.

If I had used a commercial pattern the jacket would have been quicker to finish and I’d have fewer issues to contend with. I had to insert an extra panel on the front left piece because the jacket was too small and the pocket section was out of whack to the right side. NIGHTMARE!! I was so close to throwing it out and giving up. That added panel? Let’s call it a happy mistake, one that allows the jacket to be wearable.

I would love to have matched the sleeve patterns up to the front panels but the fabric was limited. The collar took four attempts to get to sit straight, so many little challenges that pushed my patience. Madam is over the moon and that’s all I care about. She looks amaze in it. I told her I was thinking of making overalls, she said she was glad I did separates so she can mix and match. More versatility. Smart girl my girl. Fitted overalls would have looked brilliant too I think and possibly less painful. I’ll put them on my to-do list.

A fun teen-grrrl outfit to be worn with lots of attitude we think. She loves the idea of knowing no one else will be wearing this. I tend to agree whole-heartedly.

These buttons are bloody brilliant, so easy to put together, just hammer them down and you’re done. My kind of buttons. I’m going to use them on everything now. Well, maybe not everything.

In other sewing news, I have lots of golf pants (plus-fours) to make for golfers. I made a couple for hubby and the golf club were like, what the hell! where’d you get those pants from? So I have some orders to fill. Anyways, I’m off to clean up my studio, Mickey Mouse scraps all over the shop.

Thanks for your lovely comments on my plaid lingerie set. You’re all so lovely.

Happy Days.
