Catching Snowflakes on your Tongue Winter Craft

My school has Open House on Sunday and I needed a seasonal project for my students that required minimal prep, yet would look fabulous on the walls outside my classroom. Since we’ve finally been getting a little snow in Michigan, my students created these adorable catching snowflake art collages.

I dug deep into my paper supply and pulled out the brightest and prettiest colors of construction paper and scrapbook paper to help my students create these adorable self-portraits. I positively love how they match my classroom colors. Things have been really busy at school lately and I needed to prep this project in a hurry. I am SO thankful for my good friend Lyndsey from A Year of Many Firsts for creating a super-easy FREE template for this craft, after she saw the idea on Artsonia.

I aways love adding sweet details to any project and I wanted to make these catching snowflake crafts extra special, so I decided to add a little snow glitter. Unlike your typical glitter, this is bits of randomly chopped iridescent plastic. It’s lightweight, but the pieces are larger than regular glitter.

To prepare the artwork, I quickly sprayed a light layer of my favorite adhesive spray on the artwork. I then added a quick sprinkling of the glitter.

The finished craft was completely adorable.

I love the personality that emerged from each child’s project. The snowflake collages really tell a story about the each child that created them.

(The above photo was taken before I had a chance to add glitter). Lyndsey’s freebie included a template for the face, shoulders, and mouth. My students cut out their own teeth and tongue. They each created a scarf with three strips of scrapbook paper, and added yarn for hair.

I love, love, LOVE how adorable the completed collages look in the hallway outside my classroom, beside the paper plate snowflakes that my students also created.

Now I’m all set for Open House! I know the parents will be just as impressed by my students artistic talents as I was.
