Before:
Kelsey and David became best friends the summer before freshman year and were inseparable ever after. Until the night a misunderstanding turned Kelsey into the school joke, and everything around her crumbled—including her friendship with David. So when Kelsey’s parents decided to move away, she couldn’t wait to start over and leave the past behind. Except, David wasn’t ready to let her go…
After:
Now it’s senior year and Kelsey has a new group of friends, genuine popularity, and a hot boyfriend. Her life is perfect. That is, until David’s family moves to town and he shakes up everything. Soon old feelings bubble to the surface and threaten to destroy Kelsey’s second chance at happiness. The more time she spends with David, the more she realizes she never truly let him go. And maybe she never wants to. Told in alternating sections, LAST YEAR’S MISTAKE is a charming and romantic debut about loving, leaving, and letting go.

It is no secret, I have been in a huge reading slump. Last Year’s mistake is only the 3rd book I have read in 2 months. Sad I know. While at HEB (a local grocery store) I happened to stumble upon this gem in the produce isle. Seriously. Everything about this book drew me in. The cover, title, The title font, The yellow on the cover, and what really got me was the summary. I am a sucker for second chance romances! I haven’t felt that pull to a book in a very long time. Yes, I have been buying CRAP TONS of books lately, but its more out of guilt and anxiety. With Last Year’s Mistake, there was a special pull, and I know I needed this book in my life right away.I brought this book home and read it in one sitting! The Gist: Kelsey and David meet the summer of their freshman year, while on vacation. These two just kind of click immediately as best friends. Kelsey is your shy girl, who generally closes herself off to new people. Where David is more popular especially with the ladies! While on vacation, Kelsey learns that David will be moving right down the road from her and attending the same school. From there on, the two are inseparable.. Until one night something rbad happens, and it is totally misunderstood, and Kelsey is made the laughing stock of her school/town. Ready to start fresh, Kelsey and her family move to their summer vacation spot, and Kelsey takes the opportunity to re-invent herself. But what she doesn’t know, is David wasn’t ready to let her go. So a year later, he is back and ready to get his girl. The problem is, Kelsey already has a new life, new friends, and a new boyfriend, who basically worships the ground she walks on. Last Year’s mistake is told not in alternating points of views, but it alternates between the past and present. I think it’s really cool, because you still get the back story, but it all slowly unravels, until you get all the details of what really happened in the past. The writing is excellent, all the characters are really likable and are all very easy to relate to. If your in the mood for a fun, fast paced, second chance romance, then I definitely recommend picking this little gem up!
