Chair in the Surf Beach Scene

Good Saturday morning. Have you had a busy week? I sure have!!! It seems work keeps getting in the way of my crafting and blog posting. I was excited this morning to pull up the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge to find that Pottery Barn is the inspiration site this week. My card was inspired by the Adirondack chairs in this picture. I love creating beach scenes with water, chairs, fences and birds. For this project I used the Impression Obsession Single Beach Chair, Beach Fence, Small Grass, Mini Beach Fun Set and Sea Birds.

I sponged the sky, sand and water using Distress Inks, stylus and foam tips, and ink blending tools. I cut the sand and water section off using deckle scissors so I could layer it over the sky background for dimension. I sponged brown ink on the fence and cut it in half so I could create an opening for an opening for the walkway through the dunes. I cut the bottom off the fence sections to shorten for the scene and bent them with my fingers to create a worn aged appearance. I attached the grass sections to the fence with glossy accents and then attached the sections to the back of the sandy edge with glossy accents. I cut two chair sections and cut the arms and seat section off of one and popped it up on top of the base chair to create a bit of dimension and attached it to the scene with glossy accents.

I applied Liquid Applique along the water’s edge and up over the legs of the chair to create sea foam and tapped it with my finger to smooth away bubbles and heated with my heat gun. The brown ink bled into the LA a little so I applied another very light coat over top, tapped and smoothed and reheated. I finished the foam by applying a light coating of glossy accents, smoothed it around with my finger and sprinkled crystal fine glitter over it. The pretty sparkle doesn’t really show well in the pictures.

Here’s a closer view of the foam. The secret to removing the blobby bubbles when heating the liquid applique is to smooth it out with your finger. If you apply too much it is more difficult to smooth it. Start with a light layer. You can always add more after your first application if needed.

I colored the edge of the gulls wings with a pumice stone marker and then sponged on more pumice stone and brown ink. I attached them in the scene and on the frame with rolled up glue dots.

I added a fringed edge beach towel to the chair and a bucket and flip flops to the scene for the finishing touch. I would love to be sitting in the surf watching the waves roll in.
