Andrew Brown’s Chic Birmingham Cottage

I love the work of interior designer, Andrew Brown, so I was thrilled to see his personal home– a charming 1930s cottage in Birmingham, Alabama– is featured in the July/August issue of Veranda. The vignette above stopped me in my tracks when I first saw it in the magazine. I love the neutral, high-contrast palette, the creative layout created for the beautiful artwork in a variety of interesting frames, the big, polished nickel art light, the Parsons-style tortoise console, the simplicity of the white shiplap walls and braided seagrass basket, and the limed oak floors. In short– I love everything about it!

The rest of the house is just as chic, but features more color. While the common thread throughout the house is the use of black and white, the living room features a shocking dose of blue in the form of a cobalt velvet sofa and chairs upholstered in pale blue and white silk ikat fabric. In the dining room, Andrew opted for some pops of yellow, while the bedrooms are injected with a chic dose of green in varying shades. This house is such a great example of pieces with provenance, of various styles and period, coming together harmoniously. The home is incredibly chic and I get the feeling that every piece has special meaning to Andrew, which is what home is all about.
