Natural Decor for A Simple Christmas

Midwinter’s eve, the week of Christmas, and here I am still feeling somewhat unprepared, but kind of OK with that.

This year has been all about a simple Christmas. One that has involved minimal natural decorations, and as little faff as possible. If I’m honest, I’m still struggling to fully feel the festive spirit, but in keeping it simple, it’s been so much easier to feel engaged in the moments of preparations. Not thinking about what else I should be doing, but just enjoying the moment that is.

I spent an afternoon out in the woods gathering greenery – laughing at myself being buffeted by the wind and attempting to snag vines as they too were blown and danced just out of my reach – I came home feeling rosy and elated.

Over the following weeks, I gradually used each last piece I’d gathered – stringing together wreaths & adorning our candle chandelier. No rush, and no fuss over perfection.

And, after a change in plans, I made sure Boo and I had a good clear afternoon to choose trees – one for the lounge, and one especially for her. She was excited, and I revelled in it.
We chose a sweet potted tree for her. Me, biting my tongue and standing aside whilst she decorated, which made me feel all the more honoured somehow when she asked me to help. I am learning.

I did, however, maintain ownership of the second tree (which was also a second sight to behold as I wrangled it solo from car to stand, feeling like a Mama hero!) I choose the simplest warm twinkly lights and adorned the branches with beeswax candles in the daintiest of holders (which I found on eBay if you happened to be looking). Of course, I shan’t light them for fear of burning the house down, but they look pretty all the same!

I could here try to claim brilliance in a well thought plan, but since it hadn’t even occurred to me that Tabitha would take interest in the tree, much less scale her way through the branches to the top, all I can say is that simplicity has been a bonus in many unexpected ways!

Wishing you warmth & happiness this Christmas, with love x

Disclosure: The very kind folks at B&Q gifted us our lights and trees this year, for which we are most incredibly grateful, thank you x
