Chicken Coop Tour, Part 3

If you've been following our adventures with our hens, I showed off their new digs in my posts: Back Porch Chicken Coop Tour and Chicken Coop Tour: Surprise Inside! Now, I'd like to show you our chicken playground.

The girls have a new sand pit, which they love for dust-bathing and cooling off. We just rimmed it with bricks and filled with play sand for a place the girls can scratch and burrow.

We feed them lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Cantaloupe and baby spinach are their favorite treats. We've found that their favorite way to eat them is straight off the ground. If we set out a bowl, they usually just bury it!

The coop is upstairs with a secret trap door and a ramp leading down to their day pen. The girls usually wait until they come downstairs to lay their eggs each day, and they have a pair of new nesting boxes right under the ramp. The food and water dishes are hanging to keep them cleaner and keep the girls from dumping them out. When the girls are ready for bed, they walk right upstairs on their own.
