Weekend Snapshots In Short Sentences

Hello! Here’s hoping your Monday and week is already off to a great start.

Did you do anything exciting over the weekend? How about that beautiful weather? It’s finally starting to feel like summer around here, and (unlike most people around my neck of the woods) I am absolutely ecstatic about it. Bring on the heat!

Scott and I had a relatively low-key weekend that ended up turning somewhat eventful. It’s funny how that happens. Even though we weren’t home as much as I originally planned to be, we were able to find plenty of time to catch up on sleep (thank goodness), spend quality time with friends (we’ve missed you!), and soak in some of the summertime sunshine.

Since there’s not too much to chat about this recap, I figured a good ‘ol two sentences per picture will do this time around. Here we go!

Friday

Friday night called for a pizza and wine girls night after work. It was much needed.

Also… gluten free brownies.

Absolutely.

Saturday

Scott and I finally paid a visit to our community pool that is located literally right across the street from us. (We’ve only been living here for two and a half years now… why it took us so long to get here is beyond me.) It felt marvelous.

Around 2 a.m. in the morning, my side of the closet shelves fell right out of the wall. The rest of my day turned into trying to make sense of the chaos and creating giveaway piles.

Eventually, I stopped working to initiate dinner. Scott wanted ice cream, so Roadie and I tagged along for the ride.

I wasn’t feeling the sweets (thanks to the ridiculous amount of brownies I enjoyed the night before), so I skipped over the ice cream and saved my appetite for something slightly more substantial. I love my little family.

I rocked this hairstyle the majority of the weekend. Put a headband over your hair, flip the bottom layer up to tuck it in, and you’re good to go!

Oh my Chipotle! A loaded salad with chicken, black beans, rice, and all the salsas (and guacamole) was so worth the wait.

Next, we watched the finale of last season’s The Voice after saving it – for whatever reason – for two months! (Aspen pulled her famous television watching number and proved, once again, that she makes a better door than a window.)

Scott talked me into going to a late night movie showing of Southpaw. I’m not one for boxing flicks (in fact, I still haven’t seen an entire Rocky movie), but this one was really good!

(Anddd Jake Gyllenhaal. Obviously.)

Sunday

After church, Scott and I enjoyed most of our Sunday outside with friends. We joined Alex and Alex (our favorite same-name girl and boy couple!) for a walk around Birmingham, and stopped into the Farmer’s Market before we left.

It was scorching out. I quickly regretted my decision to wear ankle cut jeans, but we all ended up winning free movie tickets and free cider donuts!

We also all won by ordering lunch for four under a $40 tab. Alex and I loved the chicken sausage and veggie option at the hot dog stand.

After running a few weekend errands on our own, we joined them back at Alex’s parents’ house to celebrate her mom’s birthday with a barbecue. Happy Birthday, Rene!

Grilled chicken, rice pilaf, veggies, fruit, and salad sure hit the spot. Thank you for having us!

This weekend was the first time I really felt the summer heat this year. It only got up to the high 80s, but I just feel like it’s a hotter 85 or so than what we experienced while living in Florida. That, or my tolerance for heat has been seriously compromised. Either way, I’ll take it over a gloomy, freezing winter day!

Well, I better get going. I’ve got a busy Monday to get to, but I’ll see you guys later today with a refreshing new summer inspired recipe!

Question of the Morning

If you could sum up your weekend in two sentences, what would you write?
