Prediction

Embiggen to read if you're at all interested...
I'm making a prediction. Based on this statement right here, and given the current predictions for the temps for the coming week, I'm calling no school for the girls for the entire week.

If you'll recall from last year's snow days debacle, our local area just doesn't have the infrastructure to clear the roads. So, while the main drags will be cleared, the neighborhoods aren't touched. Ever. None of them.

If we get the 6"-8" they're mentioning, and the temps don't rise above freezing, there is no way the kids will go to school. We have tomorrow off for President's Day and the snow is to begin late tomorrow afternoon/early evening. It will continue all night and then taper off Tuesday morning.

I'm giddy. Giddy I tell you! :oD

If we get snow, I'm going to play with my newest baby...
I have a sewing machine problem, y'all...

B sent this photo from the ReStore. I took one look at this sweet little vintage (that's apparently what they're referring to these guys as these days) machine and coveted it. I figured it would be out of my price range...as in anything above $25. Nope. There was this darling little girl and she was under my threshold and even though I have that beautiful gold baby upstairs that sews beautifully and I really didn't need this one, she had to come home to live with us.

That wooden spool of thread up there? It was $0.39. GG and I paid $6.00 for a spool of white thread last week!
She's absolutely beautiful. Look at those lines... If you look carefully, you'll see she actually looks as if she's never been used. Seriously. There's nearly a scratch mark or scuff on her. The strike plate is pristine.

Check out the reflection in the strike plate!
See? Look at this front. How could I pass up such a beautiful machine?? The blue and white just called to me and I had to have her.

B oiled her down and she runs. I got her threaded and tomorrow I want to play with her.

I've done a bit of research, but really, there's not that much out there on her. She's a Fleetwood Deluxe. She's a Singer Model 15 knockoff (if you look, you'll see the similarities) and reportedly runs just as well or even better than the Singers (I'm not sure I believe the "better than" part...).

I'm not sure what appeals most about these antique, erhm, excuse me, vintage machines, but I honestly believe it's due in part to the form factor. Sure, they only sew straight stitch (which is fine by me, I have my Janome for zig zag and whatnot), but they have curves and are graceful and elegant and not boxy like my Janome. The space under the harp seems roomier, and I really like the head's shape. Maybe the appeal is the memories I have associated with the shape and the little Singer Featherweights my Grammy and GG (not to be confused with Grandma/GG of today) used.

Whatever the case, I hope I'm not turning into one of those people who start accumulating sewing machines. ACK!!

As for the predicted snow days, I'll have a better idea once I see how much snow we actually accumulate and revise my opinion from there. For now, my first call prediction is definitely no school for the week. :o)
