LIVE: Afternoon Tea at The Saxon

Yesterday was Mommy Adams' birthday and I was so thrilled to be able to spend her special day with her. Instead of buying something material, I had planned to rather do something special as we spend so little time together. I love afternoon tea, and having already visited The Westcliff Hotel on many occasions, I was looking for somewhere new for us to go. After consulting with Twitter to no avail (people in Johannesburg why don't you ever answer, start promoting this amazing city please!), I decided on The Saxon Hotel based in the gorgeous suburb of Sandhurst. I had previously visited The Saxon for a birthday party (back in the day) and remember being taken with the gorgeous decor and grounds, as well as the delicious cocktails!
Delicious savouries and sweets, and a large selection of iced and herbal teas were enjoyed by all while we relaxed and soaked in the peaceful, beautiful surroundings and celebrated Mommy Adams' birthday. The staff were so friendly and attentive which really added to the already positive experience.
The Saxon is Oprah's hotel of choice when visiting South Africa, there is even a dedicated 'Oprah Lounge'. Furthermore and what to me makes the hotel even more special is that Nelson Mandela edited his biography The Long Walk to Freedom here after his release from Robben Island in the 1990's.
The decor is truly majestic. With high ceilings, a beautiful ostrich egg light fixture in the main reception and a touch of Africa in every room, The Saxon doesn't overstep into that gaudy representation of Africa but maintains a chic, natural look. I'm sure you will agree that it is rather spectacular.
