easy home made croutons

This is a story about how I had half of a stale baguette leftover and didn’t want to throw it away. I froze it while I thought about what to do with it, and kinda forgot I had it until we ran out of store bought croutons.

In just 15 minutes we had fresh croutons with toppings of our choice!

All you do is chop up your stale bread.

Melt 3-4 tablespoons of butter. Olive oil works too, but butter is definitely better.

To the melted butter, mix in: 3 minced cloves of garlic (powdered garlic works too), salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese. You can also add any other spices you have on hand (i.e. basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, etc).

Coat the mixture on the chopped bread.

Lay the bread out on a baking sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees, for 15 minutes. Or until you see the bread start to look golden.

When they cool store them in a ziploc bag or air tight container in your pantry.

I don’t know why it has never occurred to me to do this before…So easy and way cheaper, not to mention healthier, than the store bought version.

Do you ever make your own croutons?
