The Tulip Gardens, Holland

My first stop on my trip to The Netherlands was an obvious one.

If there’s one thing I know about Holland it’s that it is the tulip capital of the world!

And I wanted to gorge my eyes on as many as possible.

In spring time, this means one thing.

Keukenhof! Home to 7 million tulips.

All different shapes, sizes, colours and varieties.

Basically my idea of heaven.

Open exclusively in Spring, from the end of March, until the 17th May when it closes for the year.

Its fleeting beauty makes the experience feel all the more special.

The weather was being pretty erratic, so forgive the coat and short combo!

Knitted jumper (similar) // Shorts (similar) // Ballet slippers

You can stroll and wander for miles.

Take shelter beneath rustling trees, meander through paths of blooms, stretch out on the grass or take up a seat at a picnic table.

It truly is the most beautiful garden I’ve ever visited.

We stopped for ice cream.

And savoured them in the dappled shade.

There’s not a lot of good food on offer, it’s mostly theme park fodder. If I went again I would most certainly take a picnic.

Tired of wandering the wonderland, the chap and I spread out our coats and made a little camp for ourselves.

Kicked off our shoes and snoozed on an island between two tulip oceans.

When we woke up he nipped off to collect a couple punnets of strawberries.

And we tucked into our make-shift picnic.

The most glorious introduction to Holland I could have asked for!

I thoroughly recommend a Keukenhof trip if you find yourself in the area next year. Hell, why not start planning a trip over right now?!
