Friday Round-Up: Hello Spring

Hooray! Hooray! I get to start physical therapy today!

Truth be told, I’m excited and apprehensive at the same time. Excited to get to start actively getting better but nervous because I know that it’s not going to be fun. And it’s going to hurt! Ouch. But it’s a good thing, right?

It has been a hard week or two. I wasn’t sure about publishing Monday’s post about finding your OK but it’s always those posts that seem to be the ones you know you should publish. But I’m slowly finding what OK means to me now.

And it seems like Spring has FINALLY decided to show its face around New York.

Totally shouldn’t be doing this. My doctor and physical therapist probably wouldn’t approve.

Remember how last year I went to the Yoga Journal Conference? Well, Yoga Journal Live! is coming back to New York City April 23-27, 2015. It’s pretty amazing when hundreds of yogi descend on a midtown Manhattan hotel and transform it into an unlikely yoga studio.

The theme this year is Awaken Your Practice and if there’s anything I need, it’s to awaken my practice. My yoga practice looks very different than it has in years because of my shoulder. But, I do appreciate the opportunity to explore and study the other limbs of yoga. Because it’s not always about the physical practice and I’m excited to learn more.

This year’s Yoga Journal Conference brings together some of my favorite teachers including Tiffany Cruikshank, Kathryn Budig, Jason Crandell and so many more teachers. In addition to the workshops and classes, there are special events including hiking yoga through Central Park; an evening of meditation, yoga, and tribal house with Shiva Rea and NYC DJ Tasha Blank; and an exploration of how mindfulness is shaping modern society with Sharon Salzberg (meditation teacher and New York Times bestselling author, Jeff Walker (philanthropist and co-author of The Generosity Network), George Mumford (sports psychologist and mindfulness teacher for the New York Knicks), and Gopi Kallayil (chief evangelist for brand marketing at Google).

Wanna go? Register here.

Are you going? Let me know!

So this whole sling thing is cramping my photo taking style. I don’t have many photos to share. Boo. But I do have some great articles and stories for you.

  • Goldilocks Wasn’t a (Happy) Runner from MyFitFamily for Huffington Post: I love this post. As runners, and people really, we often latch on to the negatives. Kinda like Goldilocks. But how does that attitude impact you?

  • The Editors of My Life from These LIttle Waves: If you’ve ever had an editor, you know that it can be a humbling and sometime brutal process. I love the idea of have editors in our real lives, those who keep our life choices in check and may offer their “edits”.

  • Runner’s High from Aeon: This is a beautiful piece about a journalist who went to Kenya to report on the women living in poverty and along the way, reclaimed her love of running.

  • Why It Is Okay to Gain a Few Happiness Lbs from The Misadventures of a Darwinian Fail: I love Krysten and love how she keeps things in perspective.

  • I Just Need 20 Minutes from Run Far Girl: I can completely identify with this. There are so many reasons that we go for a run or any other number of activities but this reason? This is the reason that I’m thankful to have running for.

  • What You Can When You Can #wycwyc Book Trailer: I mentioned the #wycwyc movement a couple of weeks ago – the idea of what you can when you can and living healthy on your terms. Carla and Roni, the amazing forces behind this, are releasing their book soon! Check out their book trailer and go order the book!

Great articles and inspiration for the weekend!
