Tips for beating the winter blues : self care

It's the last day of February, and I'm not done with my Manitoba issue black jacket just yet. Not by at least another month. Today Luke and I practiced self care to beat back the winter blues. Him more so out of necessity. I've been pulling myself out of a winter funk in several ways, one being to put a little more effort into my "look". I don't have the extra money to go on a shopping spree, but I figured a tube of lipstick and a fresh haircut would be a better investment. Turns out my stylist picked up on the vibe, and gave me a blowout. Fancy! I feel refreshed and even that boring black jacket looks better on me. Luke is looking good too. His hair is shorter, but you'd never know it to look at him. I can't get that kid to give up his long banger hair.

Todays tip is to treat yourself with some self care

Get a trim to shed those dead ends, grab a new shade of lipstick or blush, try on a colour you normally wouldn't go for, get a new hat. Whatever makes your look feel fresh and new, do it! It's so easy to let the cold weather lead us into hibernation. When you pull the same old boots and jacket on every morning, it starts to get to you. Utilitarian style decisions begin to dominate your wardrobe. Well, SNAP OUT OF IT! I say this with love. Respect yourself, and give your look a boost. It'll help with your confidence and overall mood, and that's completely worth the effort, even if no one else will see it all buried under a parka and hat.

The days are getting longer, I swear it! We can get through this. Spring is on the horizon!
