Ways to Make your Clothes Last Longer

Over the years I’ve learned a thing or two about fashion and clothes. When I was younger, I would buy the cheapest thing I could find because, well, it was cheap! It was always a bummer when that piece of clothing was super cute and didn’t last very long because, well, it was cheap. Since marrying my husband, who takes excellent care of his clothes and isn’t afraid to spend an extra dollar to get something nice, I’ve realized cheaper isn’t always better. Instead, it’s better to invest in fewer, quality pieces (which fortunately doesn’t always translate to super expensive!) and just take really good care of those pieces.

So I thought I would share some tips on how to make your clothes last longer that I’ve learned along the way!

Make your Clothes Last Longer

Read labels

I have not always followed this rule, I mean, who has time to dry clean a bunch of clothes? But taking care to read the label to see how to clean your clothes is important. It’s also a good idea to take a look at the tag before making a purchase. Is it something you like but the label reads dry clean only? It might not be worth the extra hassle and money. Personally, I love my fashion to be cute, practical and functional, which I imagine most of you share that same opinion! That’s why I love the new collaboration Asos did with method laundry detergent. Cute, practical, and easy to care for!

Know your materials

Reading the labels is important, but knowing your materials is even more so. Once you’ve learned to read the labels and what type of washing goes with what type of material, you can do more of it on your own. So even if the label says dry clean only, you know that you can hand wash in cold water and hang to dry. It will save you some time and money!

Less is more

When washing your clothes, specially if you have kids, you might feel like you need to dump the whole bottle in there! With method laundry detergent, it’s 4x as concentrated, so literally less is more! It can also be used to treat stains pre-wash so you don’t need any other products or stain removers. Simple and effective – exactly what I want when cleaning my clothes!

Take care when washing

The more chemicals you use on your clothes, the more damage is being done which is why it’s better to wash & dry clean less. (You’re welcome!) You can also lessen the amount of detergent you use (see point above!) and cut out the fabric softener all together. method laundry detergent is naturally derived, biodegradable and hypoallergenic so it fights stains without ruining clothes are irritating your skin. Sounds like a win-win-win to me!

Hang dry

It’s funny because I have a friend who hang dries everything and doesn’t even own a dryer. Say whaaat? She does it for her love of laundry and I just can’t wrap my head around that. However, I do see the benefit of using less energy and less heat on your clothes. Hanging dry any items that you can will definitely help the clothes last longer. You can even hang whites outside to help them stay brighter during the warmer months! Darks and colors should probably stay inside as they can get discolored from the sun.

The cooler the better

I’m not trying to say that heat is bad or the dryer is bad, and I will never get rid of my dryer. I like nice fluffy towels! However, if you keep the temperatures cooler while washing it saves energy (helps cut your bill down) and can help make your clothes last longer. I love that method laundry detergent works well even in cold water, so you can use less detergent and use less energy with each load!

Asos is one of my favorite online stores, in fact, I just bought my bathing suit from them for this season! So when they partnered with method to create this awesome collection, I was super excited. One of the best things about this collection is that it’s perfect for mixing and matching. You guys know I love my 7×7 remix challenges and I think it’s great to make the most of your wardrobe by using what you’ve got. So it’s really refreshing to see a brand show you how to remix one piece a bunch of ways instead of telling you that you need allthethings! I really love this skirt and I’m kinda tempted to try a top like this one!

You can grab your own method laundry detergent online and get $3 off by using the code THREEFORME at check out! With it’s effectiveness and amazing scent, you won’t regret it!

So tell me, how to you make your clothes last longer? Any tips to add?
