Parker's Room!

Parker went on his first lone trip to visit Nonnie and Pops over Spring Break so I took advantage and cleaned his room for some pictures. It's amazing that it happened, really.

A few disclaimers….

1. The light is weird and kind of harsh in these. The room is very bright and I had trouble not making everything look dark/overexposed. Sorry.

2. It never looks like this. His bed is always unmade and usually just has the fitted sheet on it and a bunch of blankets and books. In fact, this is only the second time I have made his bed since we moved him into the room. The other time was when I hosted a shower. :)

3. I kind of didn't want to post these because we worked really hard on it and I wanted to keep on loving it the way I have. Blogging is hard because I feel like people won't like it, or something crazy like that...BUT it's what we love doing so I want to share….that probably doesn't make sense.

And here are the photos:

We planked the ceiling. I don't like it as much as everyone else does but it's definitely better than popcorn. I made the fancy lined curtains--super proud of those! I also made the bedskirts (my MIL was a saint and pinned and ironed everything for me--way too pregnant for that), and the euro shams.

Bryan made the barn doors from scratch…like bought the metal and bent it with a mallet and everything. They are awesome!
Bryan also redid all of the baseboards and door casings. :) Love!

All of the furniture is from Craigslist. The headboards were $25 for both, the nightstand was $30, the dresser was $100, and it the nicest HUGE pine dresser. We love it. My parents are amazing and pick-up and store all of my Denver-found furniture until we can get it. The airplane prints belonged to Bryan's grandpa, Pop, and I just spray painted the frames and mat boards to match the room. Thanks, Pop!

Parker L-O-V-E-S planes and trains so that is why they are everywhere in the room. He picked out the Thomas the Tank Engine bed sheets :). His bed is the one on the left (next to the book wall). Speaking of the book wall….it cost $30 to do and is the biggest statement in the room. It looks even better in person and Parker absolutely loves it.

The only splurge were the Pottery Barn Kid quilts. I looked high and low for matching quilts that were cheap and colorful, but didn't have any luck. I finally caved on these with the reasoning that both boys will probably use these through elementary school, maybe longer. We paid for the mattresses and box springs with the money we made from a garage sale. It worked out perfectly!

A lot of headaches and a lot of work went into this room, but Parker loves it and shows it to everyone that comes to our house. We love it, too. And I'm sure Hayes will love it when he is old enough to move in! (Of course, then I will have TWO unmade beds, so it will kind of ruin the look for me…)
So, that's it. Sorry these are so over-exposed/neon looking. I couldn't get any better. Hope you like it though!
