Homecoming 2017

If you know me, you’ll know that homecoming is one of my favorite things ever. It’s my most popular blog post (read freshman, sophomore & junior years here!) and it is the one week a year that my school spirit-filled heart embraces. It was my third year on council but the second year planning the entire week. We began planning in April of last school year once we knew we held the same positions and for six months my brain was centered around glitter, twinkle lights and anything space related.

The week began with pajama day and our second annual door decoration contest. Last year we started a new tradition at my school (which is only about two hallways) where students cover their classroom doors with all things spirit. As my school’s campus is middle and high schoolers it is a really unifying tradition and since our dance theme was “Fly Me To The Moon” there was so much glitter and Frank Sinatra. Then came a very spirit filled week of dress-up days and late nights at school decorating our chapel for the dance.

Then came Friday!!! I was honored to be chosen as a member of homecoming court (2nd year) with my then boyfriend so Friday was NON-STOP! I ran around all day getting things ready for dance setup that afternoon all while coordinating the parade & being a part of the festivities on court. My grandparents (the best friends a girl could have) came into town for the parade and later that night’s coronation, which was so special to have them there.

Saturday morning I was up bright and early after a full night of homecoming festivities & put the finishing touches on the dance setup for 4 hours. This year has been referred to as “the most successful homecoming yet” which is an honor I share with my co-coordinator Molly. Last year we claimed the school record for most event tickets sold in school history, this year we beat our own record! The chapel was filled with twinkle lights, stars, and a giant, amazing and beautiful moon. Then I was off running around to get ready and then dancing the night away! I was so tired after the dance that I fell asleep on my couch curled up in a ball, the most accurate representation of that week.

My dress, like any of my past formal dresses, was Lilly Pulitzer (still online here!) with my classic gold block heels (Boden – similar here!) For the parade my dress is the “Avery” Lauren James (got it on major sale only $30) & my coronation dress I surprisingly found at Ross for $15. When I first saw it I didn’t expect to love it since I HATE “prom” style dresses but it fits perfectly (& was the perfect length with my gold heels) with tons of gold glitter.

Wish I could go back to this weekend & sad that I’ll never have another homecoming, but I’m so excited for what is ahead!

xo
