Off Broadway with Tail! Spin!

There is an Off Broadway theatre just across the street from my work and we have been getting a decent amount of traffic from customers seeing the show and they've given nothing but rave reviews. So a coworker and I went to check it out and loved it! The play, Tail! Spin! by Mario Correa, takes a VERY comedic look at politicians and the scandals they have been involved with.

The play flowed from politician to politician and the actors created some pretty distinct characters. The SNL alum Rachel Dratch was spot on as expected, feeding off the audience with every joke. But the best performance probably came from Arnie Burton, who could slip in and out of characters and completely convince you he was a different person in that split second. The highlight of the show for me though was probably Rachel Dratch having a conversation with herself as both Barbara Walters and the wife of a Senator.

The biggest thing this show has going for it is the ability to lift quotes directly from speeches the real politicians gave. Its the tool that carries this piece and it's one that makes you wonder if they could actually hear themselves when they were spewing out some of these things. I don't follow politics that closely or honestly much at all, but this play does a great job catching the audience up to speed on how each scandal played out without feeling like you are being given a history lesson. It is playing at the Lynn Redgrave Theater at Culture Project and closes February 1st, 2015. Get over and see it now!
