9 ½ Tips How To Take The Perfect Selfie

Selfies are my most popular pictures on Instagram.
So that’s why I decided to post a guide how to take the perfect selfie.
Let’s go!

1. The Perfect Light

Let’s start with the most important factor for a good selfie: the lighting! I prefer the frontal front of a window, because usually there are just the best lighting conditions and the light is soft.
When the sun shines very strong, you should shoot in the shadow because otherwise the contrast will be too hard.
There is also a pro tip for you: everytime I take pictures in the club /restaurant/ dark place I use a second phone, turn on the flashlight function and use the second phone as a second light source frontal and a little bit from above. The brightens the face a bit and it’s way better than to flash directly.

2. The Best Side

Everyone has a best side or a favorite facial expression and often it’s different from that how you usually look good on pictures. I prefer slightly to the side and from above. I also found out that photos with lipstick get more likes than without.
To find out what looks best on you there is no other way, but: learning by doing!

3. Favorite Filter

Thank God for the filter! I love the many filters and filter apps! It became so easy to always looks kinda good and sometimes I even combine filters. My favorite filter is the F2 from vsco – my favorite filter app. Sometimes I also use Amaro on top of it!
And if nothing really helps use black and white!

4. The Background

Also, the background is important!
Be sure, that you don’t have any other random people in the background (nobody wants to appear in selfies unfamiliar persons!) and a clean background is always better than one that detracts from your selfie.
I my opinion the best background are white walls..

5. Use The Back Camera

We all know, that the back camera is always better than the front camera, so why don’t use it? Once you know your favorite positions you should try it! If you’re not sure how to look on your selfie you can use a mirror or just buy a phone case with a mirror.

6. Shoot directly with Instagram

I can’t explain it, but somehow the selfies taken with Instagram are always much better than those taken with the normal camera. Try it!

7. Popular Hashtags

On some days I like to feel inspirated by popular hashtags like #Iwokeuplikethis #fromwhereIstand #throwbackthursday #tbt #tgif and everything popular because it’s in the news.
This is also a good way to get new followers! :)

8. The Distance

Most cameras are wide angle and distort your face a little bit. To minimize the effect you should increase the distance somehow, so you don’t take very close pictures of your face or ask friends to take your selfie

9. Catch The Moment

What I learned after years of taking selfies: professional pictures never get as much likes as random pictures you just took with your smartphone! So use the moment and be more spontaneous :)

My last tip for you: rules are meant to be broken :)
