The AW14 Knits — and, a Note on Fashion Trends

I love studying how trends are implemented on the market. Infect, trends and the impact they have on the garment industry, is the reason why I devote so much of my time to fashion. It is interesting to see how the consumer reacts to trends. The fact that brands, season after season, will to some extent present the same looks, prints, garments, etc. on the runway. Do we unconsciously start loving these trends? As a result of having seen the same looks without realising it, over an over again, accessorised with brand identity and a designer’s signature.

I have spent a lot of time wondering how looks and garments individually appear in various collections at the same point in time. In my senior thesis at Parsons I was able to unveil the mystery. The trend agency — in which is too often left unspoken of — is a significant part of the answer. I will not be going deeper into all my nerdy fashion- and trend quires at this point. However, I still want to post an example from AW14 ; The knitted co-ord. Or to be even more specific, and to state my point ; the ribbed-knitted-oversized-melange-coloured-sweater with matching flaired-leggings.
