Greenwich House Pottery

Hi everyone,

I have been taking classes at Greenwich House Pottery for the past 20ish years. It’s a wonderful ceramic studio located in the heart of Greenwich Village in an old brownstone building. They offer a large variety of classes in Wheel Throwing, Handbuilding, and more.

I started taking pottery classes when my kids were very young. I decided it would be nice to have a night off. I would leave the house at 6pm and and my husband had to feed, wash, and put the kids to bed. I have been taking classes there ever since.

Greenwich House Pottery was founded in 1902. It was originally established as a settlement house to help the large immigrant population adjust to life in the United States. This place has always offered programs in the arts and education.

I love working with clay. It is so enjoyable, relaxing, and easy. I recommend it to everyone. I usually make tiles for mosaics, but I do like trying new things. You can see my mosaics on Etsy, and some of my other clay pieces below. A lot of there were made to use in my own home and give as gifts. Take a ceramics class if some are offered near you, anyone can do it!

“Heroboy”

Not far from my home on 9th Avenue, you can find Heroboy. (9th Ave between 37/38th Streets). It’s a very old establishment (it can trace its beginnings to the late 1800’s). It has been run by the same family for generations.

My husband and I ate there a few days ago with a friend visiting us from Israel. It’s simple and delicious. My favorite is the Chicken Cutlet Parmesan Sandwich. It is HUGE though-one sandwich is enough for two people.

Thank you for visiting my blog!
