MMM {home} Giving my bargain sofa a new lease of life

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I love soft furnishings. Give me a gorgeous cushion, duvet cover or any kind of textural throw and I’m in my happy place.

We recently got rid of two large cream sofas and had a bit of a rethink about what we wanted downstairs. (I say ‘we’ but I think you all know who had the rethink…)

Anyway, the dining room has become more of a family room with smaller, round table and a comfy sofa, which has meant the living room can be a bit more of a grown up room.

I was really inspired by two things. Firstly, the Boden press day, which always has the most amazing vintage furniture pieces reupholstered in their own fabrics.

And secondly, my very talented friend, interiors expert Vanessa who I’ve mentioned before here ( and her vintage upcycled mirrors currently sell in Liberty). She is a genius at finding pieces of old furniture and then working with her team of experts to create something modern and super cool.

She’s currently planning a new look for her own sofa in a cool House of Hackney print. And I have loved this chair of hers forever.

So after finding this Parker Knoll two-seater on eBay – and winning it for a whopping £21.99 – I knew exactly who to go to for help.

I definitely wanted it to be a grey fabric with a similar look to the chair she had. But I was also inspired by these – spotted on Pinterest.

But eventually we decided on this – pale grey flannel with lime/yellow buttons. This was the picture Vanessa sent me from the upholsterers.

I dream about eventually having a house big enough for my own office or dressing room. Basically so I could buy this.

But until then, I’ll experiment on bargain buys and completely reinvent something you would definitely not have given house room to!
