Eden Juice: Perfect Solution from Imperfection (and Giveaway)

Article brought to you in collaboration with Eden.

In today’s society, models who have been Photoshopped to the point of unattainable “beauty” grace our magazine covers, yet two thirds of Americans are overweight or obese. 49 million Americans are food insecure, nearly 16 million of which are children, yet we throw away massive quantities of fresh edible food each and every day.

I would like to introduce you to a brand new environmentally friendly company named Eden. They have at least part of a solution to these disparities in our lives.

Eden’s Perfect Solution from Imperfection

Eden makes fresh, cold-pressed juices from imperfectly shaped fruits and vegetables. These fruits have all the same nutrients and healthful benefits of their prettier brethren, but many would be tossed, simply for not being perfect enough in outer appearance. As a gardener, I am accustomed to the fact that the fruits of my labor sometimes look a bit odd. Gardeners tend to love the oddities, but in a retail setting, they would be culled.

The folks are Eden must have gardener’s hearts, they embrace the diversity and imperfections, not as flaws to be corrected or disposed of, but traits to be celebrate. This juice company endeavors to fight aspects of our culture that threaten diversity, unrealistic standards, and overall health, with the delicious and nutritious juice they make from imperfect fruits.

Waste Not Want Not

Why would a nation with hungry children throw away close to 40% of the food we grow. Often due simply because the produce doesn’t meet our cosmetic standards. We waste food because it doesn’t look good and ignore the most important part—the health benefits.

Overweight yet Undernourished

Though the majority of American adults, and one-third of our children and adolescents are considered overweight or obese, most are not eating the recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables. Many obese people are vitamin deficient despite a large daily intake of calories.

Eden’s Part

There is no quick solution to these issues. Eden hopes to get one step closer with their line of fresh, cold-pressed juices though. They’ll help reduce the amount of food wasted in the U.S. for cosmetic reasons. The juice line will make nutrient-rich food easier and more accessible for those who struggle to improve their diets.
